Ok, my educated guess is this thing will make no difference but none the less thought i would ask. So here it is i was going through my old computer building materials (bulit my first computer almost exactley a year ago) because i am going to put in a couple new things (thanks to those of you on here that helped me with those) and i came across this Promise Ultra TX2 ATA/100 controller card.

And was wondering if it would be worth it to put it in? For reference, Im running a windows XP pro pretty clean version, Windows XP pro with a bunch of stuff, and want to put linux on the 3rd partion on one drive (WD100 SE) and have a WD200 SE for the 2nd drive. Also, i got a WD160 Serial ATA 150 drive too and was wondering if i put that in in place of the WD100 would it work with the 200 gig EIDE one? Could i put all three in? I have the Intel D865GBF mobo.

Sorry im kinda new at this. Thanks for your help

I am using the Promise Ultra TX2 card for my storage hard drive. What it's done for me is raise the DMA number and sped up the drive. I've put my optical drives as master on Primary and Secondary IDE. My main (OS) drive is SATA , running from SATA 1 on the mobo. Yes, you can run all three drives. If you are going to put your OS on the SATA drive, install it before connecting your IDE drives. XP has the SATA drivers, and with your Intel mobo using the ICH5 chip, no drivers are required at the F6 prompt when installing the OS. I'm not familiar with your mobo, so check the manual for the proper settings for SATA.
