I had a problem with Partition Commander. It totally wiped out my second HD when it locked during a re-partitioning...I fixed that problem but I just noticed it added a third CD ...and I don't know how to delete it...it doesn't show up in the device manager..but does show up in the My Computer and in the control panel sections....if I click on the phantom drive nothing happens..I can't even right click on it...Whats a guy to do here???

Boot into safe mode and see how many you have in device manager. Eliminate all Cd-rom drives if necessary. Reboot and have them re-detected by windows. Then you should have only 2 in device manager.

If you have a CDRW and running Adaptec software, it may be something unrelated to your HDD issue. I think it was a CDRW feature that when you formatted a CDRW disk it would create a drive letter for it that you could only access with the correct CDRW in the drive. Just a shot in the dark for you though-

I haven't formatted a CDRW in quite some time...like 7 or 8 months...So I don't think that is the problem...any other thoughts would be useful..and I have already tried to remove in safe mode..didn't work..it is still there....
