Control 2 chassis fans from 1 motherboard fan controller?

I have an ASRock Z77E-ITX motherboard in a BitFenix Prodigy case. The case comes with two 3-pin chassis fans, but the motherboard only has one 4-pin case fan controller. I'd like to allow the motherboard to temperature-control both fans. In the interim, I have one fan connected to the motherboard connector and the other one to a molex power connector.

I'm assuming it's not prudent to connect both fans to the motherboard connector (too much current? I can't find info on ASRock site about MB current provided to the connector.)

I can always get a separate fan speed controller for the 2nd fan, but would prefer an integrated temperature-controlled solution. Searches on the web turn up lots of hits about how to power the fans, but not much on how to control fan speed from one motherboard connector.

Is there any way to control speed on both fans from the motherboard?

Find a 3 pin Y-splitter. The single 4 pin connector from the motherboard should be sufficient for daisy chaining 2 fans.

Usually headers are good for around 1A... those prodigy fans aren't too powerful, they probably draw around .1-.25A. I would say it's safe to hook up 3 fans in that case to a single header, as long as they're not super high-flow fans.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem and then some...
I have the same set up, plus a H100i.

Rear fan, front fan and two fans for the radiator... all this and just one header.

Is it time to look into one of those fan controllers? Too bad i dont really have space for one.

Any suggestions?
