Ok so my contract with TMobile is up.
Should i Switch to Verizon or Stay with Tmobile. Im from Philly and Tmobile has been fine. I mean what has better rates. Right now i can get Tmobile 1000 minutes free weekends for $40.

I also have the Erickson phone should i get a new one. What phone should i get. Trying to get the best deal. I know someone has input

What are some good phones out now?
I see
Nokia 3660
Samsung e315
Motorola v600

UPDATE!!! (THE GUY PERVIOUSLY SAID TO GO INTO A STORE AS WELL)
So i called Tmobile last night and talked to a guy who gave me all this junk how Tmobile is less expensive than the other companies. He then said the current deal is $45 for 1000 anytime + free nights and weekends. He didnt however tell me about the $40 plan and phone deal. WTF

If you travel domestically, especially to rural areas, consider a switch to Verizon. If you go with verizon, I'd look at the LG-VX7000, or depending on when it's coming out, the VX8000.

Verizon was rated #1 by Consumer Reports this month.

Check out http://www.howardforums.com for good cell phone info.

in terms of phone selections, verizon sucks. but they do have the best service coverage in houston (at least that's what i think), but that does not matter since you're in philly.

no matter, verizon has the best coverage in the NorthEast as well.

a lot of people with TMobile "SAYY" their coverage is ok, until they switch, than they become evangelical about how good verizon is. ;)

I have recommended to a few friends and co-workers to switch to Verizon and all of them have been happy.

Their New Every 2 plan is pretty awesome as well; every two years a free extra hundred bucks that can be applied to a new phone.

tmobile has good customer service

it really depends on how bad you want a new phone. if you switch to verizon, you can get great deals for new phones after rebate on www.amazon.com for signing a new contract with a new service provider

washington dc area here. My first cell phone 3 years ago was with Tmobile. Switched to Verizon the day my contract expired with Tmobile.

A lot better coverage, and the $39.99 is fine for me. 400 anytime minutes for the few calls I make to people that don't have Verizon as well (in those cases, I just use the free In network calling) plus Unlimited N/Ws

I never think about how many minutes I'm using and I always have a signal.

verizon whores are trying to sell verizon to you.

since you get good service with tmo, why not stay with them for more minutes?
if you don't travel, coverage is nothing to you.

there are some nicer gsm phones that tmo doesn't carry. you can get the one with worth the most resell value, then ebay it.

moto v80
moto v878
SE K700

v80 is about $200 now.

I like verizon for a good solid phone but I prefer having tons of cool features on my phone and have more phone selection. thats why I normally stick with GSM carriers so I can choose a phone I like instead of what the carrier thinks you should use

I have tried both (i live in boston, ma and go around a 100 mi radius), and i have to say.....

they are both equal. Where Tmobile drops, Verizon stays. Where Verizon drops, Tmobile stays. That said, both barely drop calls. If i had to choose, it would be hard. I can tell you that Tmobile blows chunks in Florida though. I only go there once a year for week, so it is only a minor inconvience to me, but it sucks when i have to call home from Florida. If you travel alot, go with Verizon. If you stay in an area with good tmobile coverage, stick with Tmobile.

Not about being a whore, but about recommending a good product. The FACT IS Verizon is ranked number one in customer satisfaction.

I can care less if somebody switches to Verizon, I dont' make any money from it. Again, though, I just wanted to present what the facts are as we know them.

I just resigned with T-Mobile last week. I called and told them I was going to go with verizon. I ended up getting a 1600 family plan ( two phones ) and they upgraded my phones to the Motorola V600's @ $50.00 a piece. Those are retail $199.00 cell phones and are worth a bit more if you unlock them.

So if you're happy with T-Mobile and just want a better phone call them up. Verizon is also very good as my wife and son are with them. They use the LG 3200 models.

Call T-Mobile and ask what they are willing to do in order to keep you as a customer, now that you are no longer bound by contract to continue service with them. They'll probably want another one-year agreement for it (unless you've been with them for a certain amount of time or spent a certain amount of money), but you should be able to get a great new service plan and a new phone out of it (or up to a $120 discount or something like that). :)

Go with Verizon. The reception completely outweighs the lack of phone selection. I'm not sure about other carriers but you can get free WAP access with Verizon too.

WAP access??

in philly, verizons wireless internet using your cell phone runs at 300 to 500 kbps. i've surfed in philly and it isn't quite broadband but it is very very acceptable.

Every Verizon phone needs a little tweaking to get free WAP but it can be pretty easily done. Just a matter of changing the IP settings. I did it on mine and the only thing it costs me is just my minutes of air time, unless I am night or weekend. If you actually sign up with Verizon's WAP service it is an additional $6 or so per month.

Mine is not mindblowingly fast, but it suits my needs if I need to check a movie listing.

Is that $6 a flat fee? I thought they charge by the usage. Anyway all Verizon charges you for is airtime plus their gateway usage. All you need to do is change the gateway IP to a public gateway IP and all you're using is your minutes. It gets old after awhile but it sure is fun in the beginning. :)
