Continuous beeping on Thinkpad 600e

Research

Senior member
I upgraded my thinkpad (600e) from windows 98 to XP. The clean install of XP seemed flawless until a few days later I have started getting a very irritating continous beep sound from my speakers. I can mute it, but then I cannot use the audio.

I researched the beep codes of for this notebook and it seems to be a system boadrd problem. Does anybody has any tips to fix it?

Is there any chance that it is something else ... any guesses/experience?

Thanks!!

go into the bios (hold f1 during boot) and let it run a full series of tests, report back any error codes it gives

Thanks for your interest. Well, I started the tests. The first one "SYSTEM BOARD' gave the following error:

DEV 001
ERR 92
FRU 3710
(and an orange cros in front of the SYSTEM BOARD)

When I run the second test "Memory", the system just freezes up.

Surprizingly, the beep has vanished. I'm not sure why (probably I has the notebook on a blanket, and it heated it up due to vent closures .. or something)

Can you please tell me if something is worng?

Thanks!

Actually instead of me trying to explain the codes, would you just like the service manual that explains it all? If you give me an email addy that can take a 1meg file I'll send it to you.
