There's no risk in using an unpatched IE to access Windows Update.

Or unless the machine is already infected and takes you to another site to feed you more infected stuff :)

I've just run WU on a customers' PC, updated from SP2 to the most recent patches, no problem.

"So that's what the Google website looks like on IE6!" :) Updated to IE8 now.

How the customer managed to use a Celery 2.8 with 256MB RAM, IE6 and Google Chrome and not turn into a homicidal maniac, I'm not sure!

It's gonna be even slower now that it's updated. Even smartphones have way more memory these days.

I suggested quadrupling the RAM if they didn't want to replace it. It's much happier now, and not that slow for the basics.
