1200 won't last long on any 7900 card without water cooling minimum

Not true at all. My card only hits 57-58C at 1100. Unless you are suggesting the temp will rise 15C for going up 100MHz?

Although for a single fan cooler, what you say is mostly true.

You know, JUST for Don. Since in EVERY SINGLE 78xx/79xx post he is telling the person to go for 1200, I will try just that.

So Don, what bench is it that you want run at that speed?

Ok, so I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to give this a try. It didn't like 1200, but it was fine with 1175. So anywhere, here you go:

BTW: This is 3DMark Vantage

You're going to have to give her 1.25v and watch your temps with the fan at 100% if you want 1200mhz.

K, here is 3D Mark 11. My CPU sucks compared to a OC'ed 2500K or the like, but does ok I suppose. Looks to be about on par with an OC'ed GTX670.

Too soon for proof. But had you been in this industry for a long time you wouldn't even ask for proof. 7970s do 1100 comfortably and 1150 asks for temps volts etc 1175 is touch and not every card even reaches 1225

And yea with 1100 to 1200 your temps will easily rise more than 10-15c at least

That wasn't even close to 670 stock leave alone oced

Really?

First, look only at the graphics score, as the combines is going to suck compared to a machine with a 4.5Ghz or so i5/i7.

The above score of 9180 is above every stock GTX 670 score that I have seen. A highly over clocked 670 will certainly be above it (I have seen scores as high as 9800). But not all cards reach those speeds. And it should be noted this was the test on Performance @720P.

I said it was Vantage in my post :)

Its what I had installed. Will run 3DMark in a bit.

Well, actually you called it 3dMark 11 Vantage, but I'll let you go back and correct that. ;)

Exactly, you must look at only the graphics score...the cpu's limitations are very significant in the overall score. Here's my OC'd 670 on an OC'd i7-860:

OC +135/6600MHz

You're very close overall, and actually beat my 670 in one test.

That's pretty much the same set up i'm running, but i'll need to see how those scores translate over to performance. Not real familiar with how the results from benchmarking suits transitions into general performance.

I think even the non-voltage altered clocks will work for 60FPS at 1080p. With he exception of Arkham and probably battlefield 3.

Maybe in a little while, i'll be brave enough to push this thing to it's limit. :p
