Yup, as usual I'm late to the party. I've been holding out for GT5, but the FF13 release is CALLING to me. Theres a number of other things (CODMW2, GOW3, Uncharteds, etc) that are areally pushing me to get one.

Anything for the ladies though? Wifey likes mario and puzzle type games, abhors fighting, racing, heavy 3d, and FPS, but oddly enough loves GTA3/vice city. I've yet to play GTA4 so maybe thats a selling point. WOuld just love to have her on my side vs it just being one of my toys that she never plays with.

There's been some speculation that the narrative-dense Heavy Rain has some appeal to the less adrenaline-enriched crowed.

Katamari Forever might not hurt, either.

My SO loves Katamari Forever, LittleBigPlanet, Pixeljunk Monsters, Critter Crunch, Street Fighter, and my old PS2 RPGs.

She also enjoyed, to a lesser degree, some of the current gen RPGs, like Eternal Sonata.

However, your wife sounds like she has a tad bit different tastes (who'da thunk that women have different tastes).

For your wife, I'd recommend LittleBigPlanet, Pixeljunk Monsters, and CritterCrunch. Seems like games she would enjoy...

GTA4 is also a good choice is she like GTA3/Vice City.

Ratchet & Clank? It is technically a shooter + platformer but feels completely different from a WWII type FPS.

Give Flower a shot. I don't know how I would classify it though. Maybe semi puzzle? It's not challenging though, the selling point is the "immersion".
She might like Mirror's Edge as well. It's really a first person platformer, with the annoying bit about getting shot at every now and again.

I'll second LittleBigPlanet and Ratchet & Clank, though I have only played the demos so far.

Is that the one from PSN that you control the wind? Heard good things about that game.

Folklore, to me it seems like it had some female influnce when it was made. But as a guy maybe im way off base. Love the game, is a bit different then the standard. I'm not really sure why LBP is mentioned alot for girls (cute sackboys?) its really just a standard platformer (again I think its great, but its pretty standard other then you can make levels).

But for you, Uncharted rocks, MGS, DEMONS SOUL (can i say DEMONS SOUL a few more times so it sinks in, but please rent before you buy, you will love or hate it) and yes FFXII is sweet. GOW!!!! Valkyrie Chronicles (again, anybody with a PS# that likes RPG's should have this!!!!!!)

I prefer my PS3 to my 360 (i like the old PS controlers better then MS's, but I think that just cuz i have used um for 15 years) I like that it doesnt sound like a jet engine. I like that it doesnt RROD (for the record my launch 30 hasnt failed, going strong, but "EVERY" freind i have with a 360 had warrentied it (again for the record, older guy so only about 7 friends with um))

PS3 is a good purchase if you have the cash, like movies and are willing to do the BLUE RAY swap, have a good TV to use it on (this one is actually pretty important). Otherwise, the 360 has really everthing going for it. best games library, best live service, cheap. PS3 games used are ALWAYS more (average of $5-10 more) then the 360 counterpart. I own both, have about 150ish 360 games, about 25 PS3 games. In the long run, Valkyrie Chronicles, Demons Soul and uncharterd have the most game play in my house (all PS3 games) on the 360 its Earth Defence Force 2017 (with by far the most play, dont laugh with 2 people its a BLAST), Lost odyessy, and.. err... ya.. thats about it.. 2-5 hours in a few GOW, GOW2, Army of 2, ....err I did play alot of BulletWitch

ya I know, 2 games that had horrible reviews, EDF2017 and Bulletwitch are my 2 favorite 360 games, so my taste in games may not be even close to others (GOW was blah to me, at least 20 PC FPS that are 100X better)

GTA4 is only to recommended to people you hate. Seriously, don't do it. Saint's Row 2, on the otherhand, is a plenty fun sandbox game.

It is, I think it retails for $10. The appeal of the game is really the atmosphere. Lame as it sounds, it's a good way to spend 10 or 15 minutes winding down after an especially shitty drive in traffic.

lol, I had bought my PS3 with JRPG's in mind. Now that I have FF13 and got super disappointed - I don't even want the console anymore.

What a waste buying a PS3 turned out to be (for me.) It's been nothing but a paperweight for 2 years.

Are you kidding? GTAIV is the best GTA game in the series, and arguably the best free roam game available at this moment.

Red faction
crackdown
saints row 2
infamous

all better free roam games than gta4.

But you know what they say about opinions :)

I would absolutely agree with you that GTA IV is the best in the series, but best free roam game?

To me, the evolution of the free roam games is something like-

GTA3, GTAVC, GTA: SA, Saint's Row, Saint's Row2

GTA IV is more like an evolution of Mafia(which I liked a lot more then any of the previously mentioned titles for the record).

Discovering the PS3 shortage is ill-timed for my wants.... I've got an unused dell credit account so thats the ideal place to get it. Gonna be out of stock indefinitely. Quite lame.

Holy crap dude.

sad really I know. I actually prefer my computer to my consoles, but old habits die hard. Grew up with no money and had to play the few games i had over and over and over (you get the picture). Now I'm all grown up (well maybe not mentally) have cash to burn, i buy way to many games. BUT I seldom buy anything new anymore, here (FOR SALE FORUM), Half.com, ebay, gamefly sales, etc.. I have alot of $9.99 games I picked up when BestBuy does the monster "clean up" sales.. you know Rise of the argonuts, Bulletwitch (which i actually like), Viking, etc... I alwasy wait about 2-4 weeks to buy any game (GOW, GOW2, etc) as you get um for maybe $25 ish then. Whats even worse is I have about 30 that are still in shrinkwrap. Im far to addicted to LFD (pc), WoW in short bursts, TMC2, etc on the PC. FFXIII the last few days and Demon Souls when it came out are the last games I spent any time on my consoles. TIny bit of Prototype, Batman when they came out...

Hi, My name is Clok, and I have a problem, I buy to many games and I dont play them.

Well man, I can relate. I don't have nearly the number you do, but I do have at least 5 or 6 unopened games. Damn xmas sales.. :)

Funny you mention Demon's Souls because that was one of the few games i've paid full retail price for and got the most enjoyment out of compared to anything recent. I also have Infamous (pretty much prototype right?) and Batman, and i've played those for maybe a few hours each.

I bought Demon Souls and had to sell it. I was getting maybe 1 hour of playtime at a time every couple of days and couldn't get anywhere in that game. I have a feeling if I could sink as much time as I sunk into WoW in college I'd have loved that game. But alas, I don't have that kinda time.

I actually ended up breaking about even thanks to buying it on sale and selling it for nearly full price.

LittleBigPlanet

The end.

Really could end the thread here. The only people I know who haven't liked LittleBigPlanet are hardcore FPS junkies who won't touch anything else no matter how good it is.

The Buzz quiz game is pretty fun in groups too - if you're into trivia games at all.

The PS3 is also a pretty good media center - combines with PS3MediaServer I stream a bunch of media - so even if it doesn't get used for games by her it at least might be useful for that?

re: infamous

It's a good game but very repetitive IMO. When I was playing it, I hadn't seen much on the PS3 yet... Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but I am hoping that GTA4 (yet to play it) is a little more open-ended and random.

Personally I think Little Big Planet is horrible but a female would probably like it.

Little big planet = great creativity, cute graphics, horrible platforming mechanics

It's actually happening to lots of companies. At work, we order lots of electronics. Suppliers have informed us that there is a huge supply issue with multiple vendors. 1 week lead times are now 10 week lead times. Sucks because we have so many start ups that will be effected by this.

Ugh... LittleBigDisappointment The irony with this game is the opening credits paints all the devs as creative types... This game is nothing more than vs. Super Mario Bros with a paper doll sub-theme and modern graphics. Fucking stickers, pullease... A woman, unfamiliar with video games may appreciate this, if she's a side-scrolling fan. I for one, equate this game to the Toyota Prius- some men are weak.

GTAIV I still play this sometimes just to listen to the radio or watch TV. Fucking brilliant!

Heavy Rain is probably going to be a good choice for non-gamers. It's kind of a mash up of Choose Your Own Adventure stories, and Dragon's Lair. It doesn't really take any gaming awareness or athletic ability at all and provides a gripping story in a very unique way for a video game. I think women may get annoyed with having their tastes associated with colorful kids games.

Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds is fun to play with 1 or more friends. The online play is excellent as well. Recommended because it's a very easy to learn game with an excellent social vibe and a little good-natured naughtiness.

My girlfriend also like Guitar Hero quite a bit.

You mean "affected". "Effected" is past tense.
