Contacts vs Glasses

Which do you find more convenient? I'm considering switching to contacts. I hate wearing glasses, I break them often and they keep falling off (even the tight ones) when playing sports. I've heard of the side effects of contacts and don't know which ones I should get. The daily disposable ones or 6month constant wear ones.

I wear the ones that you take out everyday and toss about once every 2-3 weeks. They work pretty well, no complaints. Might be more of a hassle initially but once you get the hang of it, it's better than glasses.

If you only want them for playing sports, you could get daily disposables, and only wear them when you play sports.
Of course, if you want to never wear glasses then longer term contacts would be better,

OP, if your contacts keep falling off, then consider switching to another optician. You are clearly not being issued the right contacts for you.

Contacts by far. I seem to see better with them as well. Much easier to live with.

i have thought about it... but i just don't feel that having to wear contact/glasses bother me enough to go though it. Perhaps in the future though. :)

I wore glasses most of my life, and got annoyed by them in Oct 05 and started wearing contacts. However, since I have astigmatism, the contacts never sat right and had to be larger and thicker than a normal contact, thus they were perpetually uncomfortable.

I hit the breaking point early in 07 and had lasik in Feb 07, haven't regretted it at all.

However, you will be tied to artificial tears for a long time after having it. My original surgery was Feb 07 and my enhancement was Oct 07, and I still have to buy a box of artificial tears every other week. If I'm going to be out for longer than a few hours, I make sure to bring a few vials in my pocket as well. It improves with time, and eventually the need should fade entirely.

How much for a box of artificial tears?

I'd be wary of doing away with my glasses. On a few occasions, they've likely saved my eyes from sustaining severe damage. Two examples that come to mind:
1) My own clumsiness - I was bending down to pick up something, totally failing to see the corner of a desk in the way. The corner smacked my glasses pretty hard, and it probably would have gone straight into my eye otherwise.

2) Waiting for some traffic to pass by a road, I got pinged by a small stone, which would probably have gone right into my eye were it not for my glasses.

Granted, I don't like the limitations that glasses place on my field of vision, and my sister has already said that my glasses are too big.

I also tend to get eyelashes in my eyes frequently, and it seems like it'd be a pain to be constantly removing the contact lens to get the things out.

I have astigmatism and had glasses since 2nd grade. I got contact my senior year in HS and never went back. I LOVE contacts. Easy to put in, and they look a lot better than glasses. I have to wear my glasses at night (astigmatism requires weighted contacts, so if I lay down the weight in the contact shift the whole lens, making everything blurry)...Other than that, they're great, but get what you're most comfortable with...

I haven't worn glasses, but I wear (well, should is more like it) contacts and like them. I was one of the people who could barely deal with putting in eye drops before but now have no problems taking out/putting in contacts. Just takes a few times to get used to it; it's nothing. Only complaint I have about them is my eyes get dry pretty easy later in the day but that's probably because I rarely wear the contacts and am not that used to them.

contacts FTMFW.

i actually have a special type of hard contacts that i wear to sleep and take out when i wake up, and they physically correct my eyes, so i temporarily have 20/20 vision. i just wear them every night to bed, and can wake up with 20/20 vision without having to worry about contacts falling out :)

I think contacts are much better than glasses. I usually wear my glasses at night though, as the contacts tend to dry my eyes out after I've had them in all day.

i prefer glasses as i can take them off and rest my eyes whenever i want to, i also like to be able to quickly take them off and lay down/nap/sleep without having to get the contacts out, put them in the solution, blah blah, i had ocntacts for about 10 years and just recently switched to glasses, i imagine ill get tired of these and want to go back to contacts eventually

Focus Night and Days- wear them 30 days, and you're supposed to toss them, but I clean mine once a week and they're good for months. It's like having Lasik without the cost :)

Wore glasses from 10-17, and contacts up until recently. Now I'm split about 60/40 in favor of glasses.

i cant pick both.

contacts are nice in that they allow me to wear sunglasses (no, i will not do RX sunglasses - or tintables - those are goofy)... but they become uncomfortable after 8+ hours (pretty much workday). plus, cant sleep/nap in contacts

dont like hassles of glasses - smudging, falling off, or some glasses fit too poorly, etc. i havent found a Wunderframe yet

so i wear glasses 50% of the time, contacts 50% of the time, then switch to glasses 100% at home

Been earing contacts for about 15 years; I can't stand wearing glasses on a daily bases but I do like to take my eyeballs out at night to let my eyes rest. I can't stand sleeping in my contacts.
