Went to the optometrist for a checkup. I'm -4.50 in both eyes. But I also apparently have some strong astigmatism apparently. For the sake of working easier in the shop and while resting, my brother was interested in contacts. I figured I'd try them too since they were free to try. But the free ones he provided don't provide correction for astigmatism. The optometrist said to just practice with these. But that's really hard to do since my vision is still *really* crappy to me even though the power is correct. Even still, its really cool to have vision without glasses on my face, and I'm actually interested in these things.

But I also heard that astigmatism contacts are even more uncomfortable, are more expensive, and since they can't rotate, that they at times have the tendency to completely screwing up your vision until you take them out and put them back in.

Anyone else wear and actually prefer contacts over glasses? This is day three trying them and they still feel just a little annoying. I've gotten it down to taking only 3 minutes to put in though :p (Still having a little trouble getting them to stick to my eye and not my finger).

It's also kind of a plus to wear real sunglasses for the first time in my life (lets face it, you just can't really make clip-ons look decent, and the transitions that I wear can only do so well.)

EDIT: How do you guys put on your contacts btw? I'm trying to get better at it.

I don't have any first-hand knowledge on the subject, but my brother has astigmatism and wears contacts. He doesn't seem to mind them.

I wear regular contacts but with a stronger prescription to counter my astigmatism. The astigmatism contacts were too uncomfortable for me.

I have contacts and have astigmatism. Nothing wrong here. I wear them daily. As for the brand... I don't remember. I'll reply when I get home with the name.

I have an astigmatism in both eyes and prefer wearing contacts over my glasses, although I am wearing my glasses right now.

I actually have an issue with my contacts where it seems they're becoming increasingly dirty while in my eye to the point where after two hours, I lose a lot of my distance sight. Because of that, I don't wear them while on longer drives and such as I can barely read the road signs.

I have astigmatism in both eyes, my left eye is really bad and my right is "textbook astigmatism" according to the eye doc. I wear contacts daily, it's not too bad. Sometimes I have to adjust them because they got a bit misaligned, but I have never had to take them out. They really aren't that uncomfortable.

my astigmatism isn't very strong, in the left one it's barely there so i'm better than 20/20, in the right i'm a little worse than 20/20.

a friend of mine whose contacts corrected for astigmatism had toric contacts that were weighted toward the bottom. by blinking they would rotate themselves into the proper position. he said it was really cool seeing the world rotate into focus.

I have family members with screwed up eyes, most of em wear glasses, though my sister wears contacts.
I have 20/13 in my left Eye, and 20/30 in my right. No glasses for me!

I have it in one eye, and the contact is just as comfortable as the other one. I have no issues and prefer to wear contacts over glasses.

Problem is my optometrist is 3 hours away :p I dont get my next break till Thanksgiving. So I only got this one pair that I can wear for 2 weeks then I suppose I'll have to learn all over again if I choose to get fitted for the astigmatism suckers.

I like the info guys, it's reassuring to know that maybe its not as bad an experience that all the people around me were touting (many of which were just going by what they heard).

New question added. I currently hold my bottom eye lid down and my upper held in place to keep the lashes from getting in the way. I place a drop of solution on the contact and set it against the lower part of my eye. I then look directly at the contact and then slowly pull my finger away and blink. It works right now maybe 1 out of 10 times. :p

If anyone has a better method I'm all ears :p

I would say since its a forum I'm all eyes, but I only got about 75% vision right now :p
