Consumer Confidence is in the Pitts

The economy is going to hell... People are losing their jobs and all that Bush cares about is the damn war. It's 1992 all over again. Bush is making the same mistakes his father made 10 years earlier.

I would rather have Bush put his efforts into the economy then this damn war. Do you guys agree??

?Lackluster job and financial markets, rising fuel costs and the increasing threat of war and terrorism appear to have taken a toll on consumers,? said Lynn Franco, director of the Conference Board?s Consumer Research Center in a statement. ?This month?s confidence readings paint a gloomy picture of current economic conditions, with no apparent rebound on the short-term horizon,? she added.

And then when we do go into Irag and liberate the citizens who will be footing the bill when it comes time to rebuild the country? We will!! Can we afford to do this? Our taxes will be going to Iraq!!

Well, tell you what. Go to capital hill and start complaining to your senators and congressional representatives. Your cries for the economy will not do you any good on ATOT. If you are truly fired up about this, go out and do something to help solve the problem.

What exactly do you expect him to do? Fly around on Air Force One and sprinkle pixie dust over the country and the economy will be great just like that? Most people fail to see that the president has very little to do with the economy. But hey, that was just my liberal economics professor speaking, what does she know...

Oh, and if you read the entire article instead of the scary headline, you'll find this little nugget.

Not all economists found the data so gloomy.
Gregory Miller, chief economist at SunTrust Bank in Atlanta, said consumers were reacting to the threat of war and said economic fundamentals did not appear to be deteriorating.
?So even though confidence is down, we shouldn?t expect consumer spending momentum to dissipate,? he said.

In other words, yes confidence is down but the economy is still slowly recovering.

Gross over-exaggeration on his part. If he wants to see an economy in hell, he needs to hop in the Way-Back Machine and check out the 1930s or 1970s. The current economy is depressing but it is hardly a catastrophe.

If you were looking for the economy, I believe it went to hill when Asian markets collapased.... slowly pulling US down but not to the point of severe recession/
How come low post members post this kind of crap?
