constantly losing internet connection in xp.

i've got two machines networked through a linksys router on my home lan. both machines are running xp, but only one (with the ks57a) keeps losing internet connection. so i've ruled out the router as the cause.
now, when i was running m.e., i did not have this problem. so i'm a little stumped as to what is going on. i've tried several different nic's in addition to the onboard lan and still have the same problem. a reboot always reconnects me to the internet, but after a few minutes to several hours (it's never consistent) i get disconnected again.

my system is as follows:

ks57a
1.4 tbird
512 crucial ddr
nvidia gts-v 32 meg
soundblaster live!
various nics tried (including onboard lan)
30 gig 7200 ata 100.

this happens from a scratch load and after i update all the pertinent drivers, including doing the windows update.

i'm at a loss and ready to go back to m.e., but would prefer to stay on xp.

i've seen this particular problem on this board with xp and netgear routers, but the other workstation running
xp has absolutely no problems with my linksys. any ideas???

thanks,

don't feel lonely James,
I am having the same problem and lately with only one machine online, the internet connection keeps dropping and reconnecting.

I am running XP on both machines using a hub to connect. No router, just ICS.

When both machines go online, after about 20 minutes, the connnetion drops but will only be reconnected if the server reboots.
Real pain.

Don't think its hardware, as I am using
Abit SE6 mobo's in both
256mb ram
PIII/933 (oc P700) and Cele 800 @ 1.06g

NIC in each and 3com hub, with Alcatel USB DSL modem.

If one machine logs in and other does not, connection will stay up for much longer time.
When both log in, connection drops after short time.

I think i have found my problem with dropped connection using XP sharing.

In my network connection setting, I had Microsoft Client service checked in the server as well as client.

As of this writing, both machines have been connected for 2 hours without loosing the connection.
(hope this is not a premature celebration)

Only a few minutes before I made this change, I was bumped off within 5 minutes of connecting both machines.
After that, have not lost the connection yet.
