Constant VPU Recover

So I have a fresh install of WinXp fully updated, BIOS fully updated, chipset drivers updated (NForce3) and amd drivers.

I didn't have this problem before, but my X800 Pro is acting up. Everytime I try to run a game I get the VPU Recovery telling me it's not responding to commands anymore. Kicks me back to the game and crashes to where I have to hit the reset button.

I have no idea what is wrong. I checked dxdiag and smartgart and it seems to be alright.
 
AFAIK you can disable VPU recover.

Have you overclocked your card or CPU? Sounds like a heat issue to me. What game is it happening in? Does it happen in all games?
 
No OC and this only started happening with these new drivers. I had a previous ver before I fresh installed and it worked fine. I have made no changes prior to the Cats 5.11.

I only installed BattleField 2 to see if these drivers would work alright.
 
Dammit. I guess I do lose. And looks like Cats 5.12 were just released. Let's see what happens. Though I don't expect a change 🙁
 
I know this thread is about 3 weeks old but I have been getting VPU resets for a while now and it is getting very annoying. I hadn't been getting these problems for the whole time that I have had my computer running but I can't remember if I changed something to make it start doing this. I have a Zalman VGA cooler on my card and idle at about 50, load at 60 so I don't think that heat is a problem. This problem occurs at overclocked and stock settings and it has happened in every game that I play (CS:S, COD2 etc.).

Also is this something that I should consider RMAing my card over if I can't fix it or wouldn't this be covered? And do I talk to the shop where I got the card or just go straight to the company. Sorry if the question is kinda noobish but I have never done this before.

If anyone could help out I would be very grateful.

My system specs are:
Opty 144 @ 2.7
DFI Ultra-D
2x 512mb OCZ rev3
x1800xl

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I have tried 5.11, 5.12, 5.13 and some NGO optimised drivers based on 5.13 and it happens in all of them. If you need any other information about my system to help then please ask.
 
My friend's card did this all the time and it actually wasn't seated totally. Its probably a problem with VPU Recovery if its a known issue, but if you keep having stability problems, just see if you can reseat the card.
 
Try MemTest as well in case your RAM is faulty. Also check your GPU temperatures in case it's overheating due to fauly cooling.
 
Okay I was feeling a little lazy to try reseating the card and turning off vpu recover just resulted in the computer locking up so I installed the drivers that came with the video card. These drivers are 5.8 though and open gl games dont work properly for me with them so this isn't exactly a good fix. Also the performance isn't as good with 5.13. When I have more time I will try all of the suggestions here and I will post back with my results incase anyone else has these problems and searches out the thread.
