I have this constant static/roaring kind of noise that is constantly rumbling on my computer. It has been doing it a while. Of course, if I turn down the volume all the way, it goes away. I have changed speakers and sound cards and it still does it. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance,

Do you have a Mic plugged in? If so, try muting the volume for that. You also might want to try and mute your CD Audio / Line In and see if that helps...

Do you have a little volume control(speaker) in your system tray? Also, what OS are you running?

Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices.

On the Volume tab, select Advanced(under device volume)and that should bring it up...

If that doesn't list the Mic and CD Audio, then click Options>Properties(in the Volume Control) from there you should be able to add the Mic and CD Audio controls, etc...

Uhm... try disabling the analogue CD-Player output. For me with my SBLive! I just go to the surround Mixer and turn the analogue CD output off.... not sure what soundcard you have though.

if those don't work, upgrade your sound card drivers. i had a problem with XP with my card ( crackling each time a sound played and it would be full of static ) until i got new drivers.

Make sure your speakers aren't too close to your monitor. If they are very close, try moving them away a bit. Just another suggestion.

Another dumb one, make sure your speakers are plugged all the way in. Mine were not and did exactly that (they had come out just a hair) shoved it back in and they were just fine.

Anyway, good luck in finding the problem,

<< MistaEng: can you direct me where I can find those controls? Thanks. >>

If you have a SBLive! and have the surround Mixer installed (should be installed with drivers) just open it up and click on the Mute/Unmute circular icon underneath the CD Audio Icon's volume slider. If you mouse over it, it should read "CD Audio" not "CD Digital"... If you have some other sound card or have just the basic drivers installed, go to the Volume Control in the Accessories>Entertainment>Volume Control (I assume you have win2k) and check the mute box for CD Audio.

Exit and turn up the volume to see if there is any wierd noise. Hope this helps!
