** Constant HD reading. HELP!! **

Alright guys. Need some help here.

I just installed WinXP Pro on my new system and while I am in windows my hard drive light constantly flashes really quick every second. I have sat here and watched it without doing anything on my computer for over 10 minutes now and it keeps going. It NEVER stops.

Any suggestions?

My rig:

ABIT KR7A-RAID w/ BIOS v. 6G - KT266A
AMD Athlon XP 1900+
*NOT using RAID but using all 4 IDE headers*
IDE1 - Toshiba 16X DVD
IDE2 - Plextor CD-RW 161040A
IDE3 - Master - IBM 75GXP 15GB HD
Slave - Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 40GB HD
IDE4 - IBM 60GXP 60GB HD

could be a cd-rom that is checking every second...

I had a lite-on cd-rom that would check like every 5 seconds on the ide bus, so my hard drive light would blink too... maybe this is the same in your case?

That used to happen to my Smart & Friendy 8020 CD-R, but the light on the burner would light up, not the HD light. Anyway, that still happens to that drive (in another system now). This is my HD light flashing now. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Any other thoughts guys & girls?

I think I fixed it guys.

Here's what I did. When I loaded WinXP I hit F6 to load the Highpoint ATA/RAID drivers from the disk that came w/ the motherboard. Windows later complained that it wasn't WHQL certified but I told it to continue anyway. Well after I noticed the HD light problem I installed the HP drivers from the ABIT setup disk that also came w/ the motherboard. After that the problem stopped.

Guess that did it.
