The drive is in a custom case thats near silent, so its really easy to hear the drive crunching...Ive just been ignoring it forever, dont know why I decided to ask now. I guess just cause I had another issue I needed to ask and was curious about this one.
Ive had the machine for at least 2 years, Corsair 520W Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 E6600 2-4GB DDR2 (recently went to 4GB) Had an 8800GTS 640MB and recently upgraded to a 4850 512MB. The HDD is a Seagate 7200.10 320GB.
Computer has been reformatted several times, has had all sorts of different software on it...never made any difference. If the computer is on, the drive is almost always crunching like somebody dropped marbles in a garbage disposal. Every once in a blue moon it just stops. Ill notice it right away, its like *glows* AHHHHHHH! And itll be silent for a random amount of time, a minute maybe up to an hour or two and then it starts crunching again.
Weird thing is, originally the machine had XP MCE and no crunching. Also when I put the drive in my machine later on during one of the reformatting/backing up/transferring files sessions or whatever it wasnt crunching. I have XP Home on mine.
So XP its happy, give it vista and it gets ticked off?
Say, does anyone know where/how I can get an XP MCE disk for under 20$(shipped)? I have the retail box and all the paper work and COA and stuff, but the disk got munched. Microsuck wants like 50$ for a new disk...thats freakin stupid. I already paid for full use of the software...I should be able to just download the thing and burn it on a disk or something, but since thats not an option (at least I dont know how) Im willing to pay for a new disk...AT A REASONABLE PRICE.
Anywho...
