Constant Hard Disk Activity...

Hi AT experts.

My h/d LED would flash every 1 - 2 seconds even when on idle. This is on a totally fresh install of win xp sp2. I haven't installed an AV or any kind of scanner yet. I did scan for virus , etc on a previous install but came up clean (the previous install also did this).

Even during the install process (in the blue background part where it would wait for user input such as if I wanted to install XP or repair, etc) the LED would flash every couple of seconds.

The only time it would not flash is when I'm in BIOS. I've turned off indexing.

Any ideas? I'm concerned that this might have a long term effect on the h/d (wear and tear).

I have a 320gb h/d, gigabyte g31m es2c mobo, 2 gig ram, inno3d g9400gt.

thanks in advance
