Constant BSODs, again!

Built new PC for a friend back in January, everything worked fine until March when he started getting BSODs. Got them from time to time at first, then he said he was getting them every time he booted up.

I got a hold of the PC, tried some hardware stuff (removed/mixed up RAM sticks) but eventually did a reformat. This seemed to solve the issue as I let the PC run for about 3 days without a BSOD, and he didn't have any problems for a few months.

BSODs are back now, started here and there and are now almost every time he starts up he says.

I'm assuming it's a hardware issue, but what is most likely? And why would it have been temp fixed after the reformat?

Any input would be helpful.

I don't have the BSOD code he's getting right now because the PC isn't with me, but generic help would be good.

have you test the ram with memtest

memtest; or electrical voltages to either ram or other parts possibly insufficient

Will give those a try. Just seemed odd that the problem went away for a few months after a reformat.

What are the specs of the machine?

Temps, maybe? Make sure that the dust is all blown out of the heatsinks, that the heatsink is attached securely, and that the thermal paste is good.

Memtest86+, 12 hours at least. Prior to running Memtest86+, ensure you are not overclocking anything.

Like the others said, test the ram first.

But also try this free program called Bluescreenview:

It'll decode the windows dump files and give you info on what caused the blue screens.

Will get my hands on the PC this weekend. He sent me a screenshot of his most recent BSOD, and the code was

0x0F4

Any ideas?
