constant audio clipping

Hi,

When trying to record with a guitar, Cool Edit is constantly clipping to the maximum. I have check the volume control and turned down the mic, as well as muted it. I reinstalled the audio drivers and it's still having that issue. Due to the extreme clipping I cannot record anything as it simply won't pick up. Even when the guitar is not plugged in it does this.


Any clue what could cause this?
 
hmm. has anyone had audio clipping problems? could it be a setting or driver problem? or a motherboard or soundcard (I have integrated sound).

What could be wrong?
