This is going to be fun.

first, there is the interent mistrust of our own gov't: operation northwoods This was actually covered in a previous thread.

"But they apparently were rejected by the civilian leadership and have gone undisclosed for nearly 40 years." You want to march on Washington to displace the government that rejected those plans. Strike one.

Then lets take for example, the ayatollah kohmeni seizes power in iran, ousting the shah (good friend of u.s. gov't) - Iraq shortly after invades Iran, with financial and military support from u.s. of course)

So?, is there a point there besides the fact that fundementalist Islamics are seen as a danger?

soviets invade afghanistan, the u.s. gov't funds the afghani people (taliban to be specific) with military and finance to fend off the red scourge.

I think it has been pointed out before. The Taliban as an organzation did not exist until 1995.

Why are these arabs suddenly the u.s.'s worst enemy? Could it have anything to do with Israel?

I don't know, it might have something to do with the first time the WTC was bombed. It might have something to do with the two US embassies being bombed. It very likely has something to do with the USS Cole being bombed. It probably has something to do with the Talibans refusal to extradite OBL to face trial for those crimes. Do I need to continue?

Before I go any further I want to state that I am not an anti-semite, or anti-anything. i'm just a guy who wants to know what the hell is going on, how we got here, and how we can fix it!

I always take it as a danger sign when someone starts out by saying they aren't something.

Why does the u.s. provide $3 billion+ a year to Israel? we have homeless children in our own country, we have hard working people who cannot afford health insurance!

For this type of money just "given" away we could have a nationalized basic health care system. I don't remember voting to provide this kind of aide! where the hell does this stuff come from?

It comes from years of supporting an ally of the US. An ally who has been attacked and would have been destroyed without our support. It is time to start cutting back on that aid but as long as people like Saddam pays Palestinian families for their sons to suicide bomb civilians we will have to continue to support Israel.

Here is an excerpt from the sustain campaign

The total U.S. foreign aid to the whole world (6 Billion people) is about $18 BILLION, so, the one thousandth (1/1000) of the world population living in Israel gets one third of US aid. Also, Israel's GNP is around $24 Billion, i.e. a quarter of Israel's income comes from the U.S. The Aid to Israel is in the form of loans.

I gotta be honest, if this stuff really happens I can understand why the arabs are bent at the u.s. Our gov't is funding expansion of the Israeli state at the cost of our tax dollars, and the lives and land of palestinians.

Now... retorts

If the Arab states were not using the Palestinians as pawns and distractions from their own failed leadership the situation could have been settled long ago.

Why retorts? I think you summed it up pretty well!
Two thumbs up!

Two thumbs up!

Thumbs up for misinformation and that crap. You have low standards.

Thumbs up for being an idiot and believing all the stuff the gov't tells you. You have NO standards. 😀
How about you actually move your @ss out of your hillbilly-midwest-town and take a look at the world?

Could you please point out a single sentence in etech's post that is "stuff the gov't" told him? Please be specific and provide documentation to the contrary. Otherwise "thumbs up" for being a parrot and believing all the stuff that you've been told to believe........

Indeed. How about you actually move your @ss out of that mecca of anti-government, let's revolt, we're being duped feelings called California and actually take a look at the world? Not your world, the REAL world (although that concept may be beyond your grasp).

Not to mention an ally who has a war-criminal for a leader, and is one of the leaders on breaking and ignoring U.N resolutions and declarations of human rights. Surprise, but Ariel Sharon offers Jewish, non-Israeli citizens full Israeli citizenship and a sum (can't remember the # right now, I can find it when I get some more time) of money to relocate onto (illegaly) controlled Palestinian lands. The coin flips both ways.

Yeah, I know not all Cali is like that at all. I was momentarily pissed. Please excuse me. 🙂

I was unaware that Sharon was tried and convicted of war crimes. Please provide me with a link to a news story that covered this conviction. Thanks.

<< I was unaware that Sharon was tried and convicted of war crimes. Please provide me with a link to a news story that covered this conviction. Thanks. >>

from amnesty.org:

The complaint against Sharon was first lodged with the Belgian Public Prosecutor's Office in June 2001. Ariel Sharon was Minister of Defence, with overall responsibility for the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), at the time of the 1982 massacre of Palestinians in Sabra and Shatila refugee camps on the outskirts of Beirut. The IDF allowed the Lebanese Phalange militia to enter the camps where the killing of hundreds, mostly Palestinian refugees, continued for at least 30 hours.

...

The lawyer representing Israel argued that Belgium lacks the legal authority to try Ariel Sharon on charges relating to the 1982 massacre. Among her arguments the lawyer stated that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has immunity as a head of government; the case had already been considered in Israel by the Kahan Commission of Inquiry, which was a judicial commission; the 1993 law cannot be used retroactively; and the case has no connection with Belgium. A Brussels public prosecutor rejected the defence arguments and said that the case should go ahead. The court hearing due to start on 3 October will rule on the legality of the proceedings against Ariel Sharon in Belgium, not on the content of the case against him.

...

In 1983 the official Israeli Commission of Inquiry into the Events at the Refugee Camps in Beirut concluded that Minister of Defence Ariel Sharon had "disregarded the danger of acts of vengeance and bloodshed by Phalangists... failed to take this danger into account when he decided to have the Phalangists enter the camps...[and had not ordered] appropriate measures for preventing or reducing the danger of massacre as a condition for the Phalangists' entry into the camps." The commission recommended that "the Minister of Defence draw the appropriate personal conclusions arising out of the defects revealed with regard to the manner in which he discharged the duties of his office." Ariel Sharon resigned from his position as Minister of Defence following publication of the Commission's report in 1983. In February 2001 Ariel Sharon was elected Prime Minister of Israel; he took office in March.

As far as I can tell, the case is still currently under investigation, as there is no announcement of a verdict; guilty or not. But the fact that Sharon's own government declared that his actions were wrong and he subsequently resigned speaks volumes...

I can't type that fast. I'd be sure to miss a few.......😀

How can there be a verdict if there never was a trial? An overzealous Belgium prosecutor in a court without jurisdiction does not a conviction make.

He is not a war criminal until found guilty of war crimes by a court with proper jurisdiction. Sharon took no active part in any massacre. He has not been charged or tried by any treaty endowed "world court" for any such crimes.

How about you take you neo-fascist head out of you @ss and maybe take a look around the country and maybe, maybe even across at least one of its borders, boy? Because that's where the REAL world is, moron. It's not my fault that he acts like a hillbilly from a small town in the midwest who sleeps with his mother and is his own uncle.
I have traveled to more countries than you can probably name, so I am pretty sure that I am more qualified to speak on this subject.
=> SHUT UP BOY!

<< Sharon took no active part in any massacre. >>

He actively, as the chief of the IDF, allowed a faction of Lebanese geurillas into a camp housing its rivals. No, he didn't pull any triggers but did Milosevic either?

LOL, suuuuure.

If true, it's only because everywhere you've gone you've been asked to leave.

My points made are the ones above. You apparently have no counter to them besides saying that is "all the stuff the gov't tells you"

Prove it or STFU. What part of the above made you think that I heard it from the government? What makes you able to say that you know enough about me to make such a sweeping statement about where I get my information and what makes me believe what I do?

I made an observation that you had low standards because you seemed to believe the obvious misinformation contained in the original post. That observation still stands.
