My Asus A7N8X+ motherboard is unstable on win98SE. Long boot hang, Audio crasing the OS. Not to mention the
trouble with the Cousair PC3200. After many service calls I was hinted at to try another OS, before they gave
me an RMA number to return the product. Saying no to further expirementation, they gave me the number.
Just as a ruse, before I tore the MB out, I upgaded my brand new computer to 98ME.
Bingo, no more problems. The reason I invested My time on My most desireable Os, is because on page 71 of the
A7M8X Delux manual it states(This Motherboard supports Windows 98/98SE/ME/and 2000/XP).
This information is false and misleading in my case.
Why do all the reviews test only in XP, and leave many of us to struggle allone trying to use the OS of our oun choice?

Before I gave up, I would
  • Disable any onboard NICs I wasn't going to use, since they are probably the cause of the prolonged bootup times (this is Win98's issue, regardless of the NIC)
  • Reinstall Win98SE from scratch in case it didn't "take" the first time
  • Try updating the drivers to nVidia's 2.0 package, except for the audio, where I would use the drivers provided by Asus
  • Follow the Win98 driver-installation guide

I'm not saying it's going to work perfectly in Win98, but sometimes a little work will iron out bugs.

Did you install a fresh copy of W98SE when you upgraded your machine? What kind of problems were you having with you Corsairs? I have run 98SE on many current motherboards without issue (although not yours). I do not believe there is any kind of conspiracy.
