Consolidate all build suggestions/help into one thread?

just a suggestion. we have so many build help threads its crazy. dont get me wrong, i love to help n00bs, but maybe if we had one thread for each brand it would solve 2 problems. 1, it would give the n00b ideas before he/she makes their own blind thread. 2, it would help clear some of the clutter out of the GH forum.

maybe i should have posted this in FI, but who knows ;)

vote for the **OFFICIAL** AMD build thread. ;)

just an idea, dont flame me

While aguide is a good idea, oh wait Anandtech does those all the time. Plus a lot of people are differant, so 1 thread may get confusing for some people that need somethign differant then others.

Usually hardware and software have a cleaner break than combining them into "build." As for building, the process is the same for both AMD and Intel - done 'em both.

I say leave it the way it is - I'm getting too old be retrained. :) :)

well i mean for selection of parts, not a guide to help them make one. mechbon already has one of those ;)

Without these build threads, General Hardware would be ghost town.

i think you are a little unclear still.

we make a thread where n00bs post their potential rigs, and we critique them. instead of having 50 different build threads, they could all post into 1 thread. that way all the n00bs will learn from the previous n00bs critiques.

Imho... OFFICIAL general threads don't work.

One good example are the I WANNA and BRAG threads in Hot Deals. Those hardly ever get a result.

Another is the motherboard threads in the Motherboards forums. They've become so long that finding your specific question in them is way too bothersome.

I don't know... I guess seeing multiple threads of people asking (basically) the same thing has never bothered me.

It's tempting, but people have different
- goals (business, video editing, photoshop, gaming)
- disk performance, backup & infringement needs (RAID 0/1, CD/DVD burners)
- budget constraints
- irrational biases (AMD vs. intel, ATI vs. nVidia, drive brands they h8 and ph34r)
- tolerance levels for noise

...so we'd need a whole set of official threads.

its pretty much impossible to put all the info in one or two threads without completely educating the people reading them to the point where they can make their own choice, defeating the whole lazy lure of just "post and tell me what i need!" :)

curious..any particular reason your response was done the way it is..with the breaks and hyphens like you used..?

because I'm too lazy to use bullet points, and last time I tried they didn't work :)

hmm, let's see:

don't think this would work well. We already have specialized fourms for all the parts of the computer, thats where they decide on the individual, and this fourm is where they put i together and ask us how it looks. fine imo

I know, i know grammer sucks. I am out of school so i don't care

EDIT: :p
aha! so it works like "real" HTML where each item needs an [ LI ] inside the block.

That's what I get for not Reading The Friendly forum Manual :)

Bullets are confusing. You need the BULLET tags, and before each point the (aptly named :confused;)LI tag. Click on quote to see how I did it. ;)

How about a new builds category?

In that area everyone who wants advice on their in-the-making comp can post & get suggestions.

thanks, I looked at Wingznut's to see what I was missing -- kind of obvious after the fact since I've been using < UL > 's in HTML for about 5 years now.

Oh well, it's only taken me 3 years and help from two people to learn the forum equivalent :)

Merely an idea to keep the "what do you think of this build" threads in one area :)
