Consoles: Any 12v car adapters available?

I've never seen one, but there's no reason why a company wouldn't make them. I have an inverter, but would rather run direct off 12v.

I currently have a GameCube and a PS2 I can use. I'd rather use the GC because of size, but am willing to consider anything...

most consoles (back in the day at least) ran on low (<12v) DC anyways, so you could get by with a DC-DC converter, or just a regulator, if you knew what the input voltage was.

GC and PS2 both run off of 120AC... soooo how exactly would you wire it up directly to 12v? You would have to crack the case and wire it directly.

Both the GC and PS2 use more than 12v input voltage, so you'd need a voltage step-up to go straight from a 12v source. You'll never find one commercially available. Use an inverter to go to 120vAC and then kick it back into the DC.

(Actually, a classic PS2 takes AC directly, only the PSTwo even has a DC port. I don't know how the GC is done, I suspect external AC/DC converter because of it's size.)

Well, there are laptop car adapters for 24v lappys... So I can't imagine it would be too difficult to do one for a console...

DC-DC converter. kind of fancy. not always cheap.

Gamecube will run just fine directly from auto 12V. They even make a cheap adapter to do this if you want to regulate it first, though I suspect it has a regulator inside it already. Got ours from ebay for like $5, and it comes with the correct plug.

There used to be a site up that showed how to wire a PS2 directly to 12V auto power, I will look for the link and post if I find it.

Sweet! Thanks!

Doesn't the new PS2 have an extrnal power converter that converts to 8.6V DC?

As long as your car can handle the wattage I figure it would be an easy DC-DC conversion.

Just go buy a power inverter that you can plug into your car's cigarette lighter. I bought one for my wife's car that can be hooked up via the cigarette lighter or by hooking it on to the car battery and it works fine for the laptop or a game console.
