Console v. PC - The Video Game Smackdown!

No fussy installations, hardware configurations and possible incompatibilities are involved.
Agreed, save for the 360 / PS3 backwards compatibility. Although, I did discover that my cousin had been using RCA cables to connect his 360 to his father's HDTV for over a year before I helped him discover HD gaming via HDMI. I imagine this is a common problem.
Console gaming offers instant action at a relatively affordable price.
Drop a mid-range ~$200 graphics card into your new Dell PC and it should be comparable.
Let’s not forget that most average people either don’t know or aren’t comfortable using a computer keyboard and mouse to play a video game.
...
most sports fans would rather play it on an Xbox 360/PS3 because of the easier gamepad
360 controllers work just fine on PCs.
everyone is usually huddled around a big-screen television.
A graphics card with HDMI out can plug right in to that big-screen TV as well.

i like gameing on my PC and PS3. only issue i have with the PS3 is playing fps with the controller. i prefer the keyboard mouse.

Reading that was a complete waste of time. Only arguments everyone here has heard a zillion times.

edit: and of course even many of those arguments were faulty ones, like the ones Schadenfroh debunks above.

I just hooked up a friends 360 wirelessly to his network and almost fell over backwards when he signed up for the Xbox Gold at $60 for a year to play games online and talk to people. The game is CoD:Black Ops, my son has the pc game after buying the game he went to Steam to talk to his friends for free and went online for free to play the game.

I am not casting stones, to each his own but to pay extra to play a game online. Owww

Best solution is to play on each if you're a serious gamer. I'm not a serious gamer, despite having several TG records and a couple entries in the Guinness 2011 Records book. So PC only for me, aside from an ancient NES and an Xbox long lost somewhere in storage.

Did you post this in the console gaming section too or do you just want PC gamers to tear this one apart?

Either way, apart from graphics all the other stuff you can do on both. Mind you, I didn't even read the article. What does matter is the games. There is only 1 game, I mean ONE game on consoles that I want on PCs and that is Final Fantasy. I would buy a console just for that game. Maybe GT and Forza, but those aren't a big deal. I can live without them.

mods can definitely be a big factor.

I prefer to play games on my console, laying on the couch and using a controller with the game on my big flat screen... but every so often there will be a game like Dragon Age, which I found to be all but unplayable on my xbox because it didn't have a respec mod or the ability for third parties to fix game flaws like the tactics system.

Also: the PS3/360 is only $300 up front, but almost every game costs an extra $10 console tax, and with the 360 you pay $40+ a year for Live Gold.

If you can afford it, the best approach is to not be a fanboy and own all 3: a gaming PC, 360 and a PS3. You can play all the exclusives, you can play where you want to in the house, you can use mods when you want to, you can get used or Steam sale games cheap.

"Console gaming offers instant action at a relatively affordable price. "

That's BS. My friend used to make that argument to me all the time him being a console pusher. I bought a PS3 and half the time I turn it on I'm either downloading a large update for the PS3 or the game I'm trying to play. Also, just like PC games you have to sit through a game's loading up. Instant action my ass.

Consoles are massively inconvenient too. I find it completely anise that I have to get my fat ass out of the chair anytime I want to play a different game which requires the effort of having to switch the game.

Blah blah blah same old boring arguments. Personally I have a PC and a 360, and use both (though use the PC 90% of the time, and the console 10%).

Console gaming doesn't offer the amount of online multiplayer freedom, free custom content, and modability that PC gaming does. IMHO, console gaming is mostly for kiddies whereas PC gaming is for the serious online multiplayer gamers.

I do wish you weren't so tied to a disc. I keep my games downstairs and that means I have to go down to get one if I want to play a game upstairs :\.

That also doesn't include the weird quirks you have "fun" with on the consoles. Anyone here ever tried to transfer saves between 360s? How about use the same profile on more than one? It's a huge pain in the ass and some saves simply cannot be transferred off the HDD (Rock Band, DoA4, etc).

I have to keep my profile for my 360 on a USB thumb drive just so I can switch between consoles easily. That is very user unfriendly.

I like to consider design philosophy/culture. Would we have gotten games like Baldur's Gate, Thief, Deus Ex etc. without PC gaming even if consoles had had powerful hardware and mouse + keyboard starting with PS1?

Ya, I dont understand this console vs. pc crap. I do both. They all have pro's and cons. Typically it comes down to the type of game that decides which I use. Now with all the cross over ports etc, it's even less of an issue.

I love this picture
