Console Game Bugs

This is a bit of a rant and a question...

So I enjoy playing DDR... it's a good work out and I want to beat it. Well, I was doing NAOKI Underground's INSERTiON and I beat the song. I'm not too great at that song and I got a 'D' score. The game even said I cleared it. Well, I get to the menu where you choose a song and it says I have an 'E' for that skill level still! Dubbya-tee-Eff! I thought something happened and maybe I didn't actually clear it. After a couple more tries, I beat it again, watched... it said "CLEARED" and said I got a D again. I get back to the menu and it still lists and 'E'!! I'm going to go crazy if I can't get my Achievement for "Clear All Songs" because of this bug.

So I'm going to have to figure out how to submit this bug to Konami and in the meantime, any console bugs that have pissed you guys off before... kept you from an achievement... kept you from winning?

Yea...there was this one bug called "Back to the Future" and...oh wait, that was the actual game for the NES 😛 I can't believe how many times I slammed my fist against the NES because of that game. Ok ok it was less a bug than the game being f'in hard, but still.

I ran into a bug in Oblivion on the 360. I couldn't get the last achievement for 100 points because of it. Whenever I went into the last battle of the game, the bad guy wasn't there. WTF! After that I gave up on the game.

I know PC games don't exactly receive great treatment for all bugs and it seems consoles are the same way. Although I've even seen XBOX Live Arcade games receive patches/updates .

Well unfortunately at least PC games - different system configurations can cause different things to happen.

Console wise - it's hard for 10 guys to find bugs in a game and be able to test every single instance as opposed to the millions of people who will buy and play a game and discover certain things. I'd personally say I don't notice nearly as many bugs in console games as opposed to PC, but then again I'm not actively doing anything to look for them. Your case you certainly weren't either, but sometimes bad things happen 🙁

I ran into a bug on Winnie the Pooh's Honey Hunt on my son's V-Smile. There was one spot on the first level where Pooh fell through the floor but we were still able to move Pooh through the level but never complete it.

I got to a point on one of the NHL games for the original Xbox where I couldn't progress any further. If I tried to simulate past a certain date it crashed on me, so I couldn't get to my next game.

I still haven't finished GTA: Vice City due to a bug.
If you save your game at the Ice Cream Shop at a certain point you never get the phone call to initiate one of the later storyline missions. 🙁
Morrowind Pissed me off with getting stuck in the landscape quite often as well.
Medieval II : Total War has some interesting bugs as well, though none of them are game breaking and sometimes they even work to your advantage.

Get better and get above a D rating.

Tenshodo, I'm no DDR expert here and for a big guy to play DDR and beat almost every song (there's about 2-3 that still trip me up) is a feat in itself! It's only a 4-step song that's harder than some of the 5-step songs that I beat. I was actually just doing Candy by Luv Unlimited and that song kicks my butt in the middle... it goes L, U, R, D, U, D, U, D, U, R, L , U, D, U, D, U, R, D, U and just keeps doing that 🙁. Those quick changes keep throwing me off so I try to skip over them and just pick up the Ups and Downs, but I never account for the others. I should just double step U+D because that will give it to me ... but that takes a lot of energy to constantly combine two arrows over and over and over 😱.

Also, there's no one to say that getting above a D rating will actually do anything other than make me even more frustrated that I tried so hard and still can't get it to save. But it's weird, because you'd think every other song goes through the same exact procedure to save the information (I highly doubt each song has its own routine other than some variables and such being different). That's what really bothers me is that I can't even think of a reason for it to mess up like that 🙁.

I also found a bug in Geometry Wars: Evolved. I own Arcade Unplugged, which sucks because I hate putting discs in for arcade games, which I don't like doing (it doesn't feel right to have to put a disc in to play a mini-game). So I played the GW:E trial version, because it also has a timer. So I used that timer to time me when doing the "Survivalism" Survive for 60 Seconds Without Firing achievement. I got it and fought for a bit. It gave me the "You must unlock the full game to get this achievement!" So I pressed the button to unlock, paid the MS points and it went back to the screen. I check my acheivements and lo-and-behold... it's not there. I always get to around 55 seconds when I die (I keep going right when I want left, etc... sometimes I hit the left arrow in DDR instead of the right too... maybe I'm lysdexic?) doing that achievement so I end up getting frustrated and I just want my acheivement 🙁.

My dad, who only plays Zelda games, got hit with the Shad Bug on his first play through back in December. Knowing that I had already beaten it without incident, he called me to describe the problem and I quickly found the culprit through a Google query.

Ever have to tell your dad that the first 60 hours (he's slow as heck) he spent on his campaign were for naught? It wasn't terribly fun.

I ran into some bug in KOTOR. Turns out theres one part where if you select a certain character and they have some obscure piece of equipment on, one of the conversations just hangs forever.

Eh, console game bugs have nothing on PC game bugs. Console games don't regularly crash or fail to play in the first place.

Personally, I've never run into any hideous bugs on a console game. I've heard of them, like the Zelda bug above but never hit them. I have seen a few in PC games, then again I've probably spent much more time playing PC games than console games
