here's the consolation deal for those who didn't get the 120 Gig Dell drive:

Dell's site also has a 80 gig 7200rpm drive with 2mb cache that can be had for $93.20 shipped using the same method

just search for Dell Part# 340-2966
once you add it to your cart, it'll automatically give you free shipping and 20% off since its a peripheral
then add the $10 off coupon for another -$10

the $10 off coupon can be found at slickdeals.net, i almost posted it here but i think im not supposed to

not nearly as sweet as the original though, but even at pricewatch.com, 80GB 7200RPM hard drives are going for up to $115-130 if you count shipping

I think that's a GREAT deal considering it's really close to the $1/Gb margin that I like to buy on :D Makes for some truly RAinexpensiveD!!! :D

i was all set to order one today for my bro's system, and then they pulled it :(

at least i've got my setup coming in from a friend. if anyone's got an extra 120gb from dell lmk :D

i was looking at this hdd earlier when the other deal ended, just doesn't seem nearly as sweet though. although it also seems like the best deal for this price range.

I was lucky enough to get 4 drives total.... 2 Western Digital originals and 2 Dell-relabeled....
all bought at those kickass prices with the stackable coupons and discounts...

Do not take part in a Hot Deal and then advertise that you will sell it.

This is a nice deal. Falls in right between the 120 GB drive for $125 and $142 if you're looking at $ per GB. Plus some people were getting Seagate's with this deal which had the full manufact. warranty. The 120 GB WD has like no warranty.... Great deal!

There isn't anything wrong if I'm ordering this for a non-Dell system is there? It says built for Dell Dimension systems but I won't be using in a Dell....?

nope, dell pc's are 100% compatible and vice versa, ive upgraded a few before so ive seen their guts up close
damn near everyone on this board just ordered the 120 gig version anyways, if there's a problem here there's gonna be a tidal wave of AT fury (or of AT tears from crying)

ok I didn't want to sound like too much of a noob (even though I did) but I saw "for Dell Dimension" and I was a little cautions because I'm purcahsing this for someone else

You're kidding right? You didn't see this thread? Or this one? Or This one, either?

To make it short....Yes, this is WD. Now go, before you get flamed for sounding like a n00b!

I was under the impression the 80 gb was a Seagate Barracuda...

...and the 120 gb was the WD...

i dont think anyone can be really sure of what this one is since the specs for it are common specs for an 80 giger, but id assume it's a WD since the other one is almost surely a WD, it might seem that dell is partnering with western digital for the time being

just an assumption though

Good price. I got one :)

Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed when the title of the thread doesn't actually tell you what deal you are looking at. Just seems like actually mentioning the deal could be a big time saver for anandtech's slow days or those without million megabit connections all the time, also may save Anandtech some bandwidth.

anybody actually received these yet? if anyone has, is it a confirmed WD? i know it is a crapshoot, but i want to replace the HD in my UltimateTV receiver, and they are picky. A seagate barracuda IV and WD BB series so far are the only ones that work.
