Considering Xbox or PS2. Which console has more games like these...

I am not a gamer at all , but have played Metal Gear Solid, Perfect Dark, and 007 at my friends house a while back. I don't know what console they were played on, but now that I want to buy a console for my own apartment, I want one that has the most of these types of games. Are these what they call first person shooters?
I also like Super Mario World type games too.

So given these two genres, which console - the Xbox or PS2 - is a better choice? Thanks for your help guys. This is one of those off-topic questions that most of you ARE experts on. 🙂

I have seen metal gear and 007 on Xbox.

I like the X-Box better. Seems like it has more room to grow, quality of games that is, while the PS2 is pretty much out of steam
 
Try a search for xbox, or ps2 on this forum.

Also checkout this thread relating to XBOX.

I think the arguments for XBOX capabilities are much better than that of PS2.. Plus XBOX has Halo.
 
Sounds like for the type of games you like the Xbox would be better. Xbox has better FPS games in my opinion (RTCW with online play, Counterstrike & Half Life II coming out later this year, also Doom III and Halo II coming out next year.)

Playstation has better RPG's and funky Japanese style games. They also have the online EA sports games from now on, you could get them for Xbox but they won't be online compatible).

I like all those kind of games, but I have an Xbox instead of a PS2 and I am very happy with the Xbox. It is much more powerful and its got some great exclusives like Halo & DOA xtreme volleyball.

?????? have you gone mad?? ps2 has waaaaaaaay more and much, much better games, honestly.

Only games people know for XBOX, are Halo, Halo 2, Morrowind, and a few others.

ps2 has dvd-support right out of the box, and is cheaper. So what if it has average graphics compared to the XBOX.

ps2 also can play the original playstation games, unlike XBOX.

I just think ps2 is much better than XBOX in my opinion.

The guy is more interested in the games then which one is better than the other. If you think the only games people know for the xbox are those then you need a headcheck. I don't own one and I know at least 5 games I MUST have on it (not including Galo). And DVD point is moot, I wouldn't use the PS2 to playback dvds because I like my movies and don't want to butcher them. But then neither would I get the Xbox dvd player.

For what you're looking for, the Xbox certainly seems to be the choice, there's plenty of games in that genre out or coming out. You'll also have a system that will be good for a few years, whereas the PS2 you really are buying into the end of it's lifespan.

The Gamecube could also be a choice, it's certainly got some excellent shooters (Metroid) and Nintendo of course own the Mario character 🙂 It is hard to say though, as I don't think we'll see the volume of FPS shooters that we will be likely to get on the xbox on the cube.

 
Most people shouldn't worry so much about the volume of games, who can afford to buy that many games anyway ?

It's better to look at the actual games you like, forget about quantity, read reviews of actual games. Pay attention to the fact that many excellent games, Splinter Cell for example, can be played on the Gamecube,xbox,PS2, and others like Metroid, can only be played on one console. Don't forget that if you have a decent game playing computer that some games can also be played on your computer, like Halo, or Grand Theft Auto,Vice City.

 
XBox. You'll love Halo and Splinter Cell. You can also check out RTCW. Great games! XBox also has in game 5.1 sound and HD. 😉 If you get an XBox you gotta get XBox Live! 🙂
