Hi All,
I now have a nf7-s ver 2 MB with a mobile 2500 running at 2.2 gig @ 1.55 Voltage. I never really tried to oc this puppy to see how high she would go, am happy with the 2.2 gig.
I'm considering buying a A64 3000 retail, or one of the mobile's, . The MB is the chaintech VNF3-250( is there a better board for the money ). I now have Kingston HyperX 3000 ( 1 gig ) memory. I'm really lost on the memory. I have no idea if this memory would be good to use on a A64 setup. Please feel free to give your opinion on what A64 CPU ( mobile or desktop ) is the best bang for the buck, also what is the best hsf fan for the new setup. and please don't forget the memory :)
All opinions are truly welcomed.
Thanks for your help
Ed

I just built a setup around that CPU and love it. I got the ASRock K8S8X board, about the same $$ as the Chaintech but more mature, and from what I've heard more stable. It's an awesome board. As for RAM, I agonized over it as well. If you're not going to overclock, I say just go with quality PC3200 ram. Paying through the nose for good timings that don't buy you squat on an A64 just doesn't make sense. Also, I got the retail box CPU, hence I use the stock HSF. Works fine, and with Cool and Quiet enabled, temps are very low.

The stock cooler does work well if you don't plan on overclocking, I have the venus 12 and it dropped my temps 6c when overclocked. For memory I have tried kingston value ram, hyperx4000 and ocz pc3200. The ocz helped with overclocking more than the others. For motherboards I have only tried the msi neo-6702. Hope that helps you make decisions.

for Mobo i would go with an ASUS K8VSE or what ever it is.....(its black) it has great support for all the good memory brands, tomshardware investigated something bout memory modules and A64 boards.....and a lot of boards had problem with some of the DDR 400 they tested, like freezing windows and not even booting up....the ASUS was the most stable an reliable......and ill be buying on of these mobos too after reading that

I really don't want to buy memory right now. I would like to know if my Kingston HyperX 3000 is ok/good to use with the A64
