Personally, I would not.

174k likely abused miles on a hot hatch owned by a kid who is trying to make cheap power is something to steer well clear of.

My rule of thumb - if it's been cheaply modified with crap like different hoods, fart can exhausts, etc.....stay away.

While they were nice when new, I'd stay away from whats left on the used car market.
That holds true for most first generation focii
As noted above...mods point to abused example.

People are such wimps. He is driving a 1985 BMW in fair condition. I doubt he is going from something super reliable to something that is a POS here. Is this an even trade? Then hell yes. I'd want the stock hood though. That thing on there now looks like crap.

There's a reason the kid is willing to trade in the first place - it's got to be a complete shitbox.

174k miles on a highly strung Zetec variant (SVT basically took the crappy 130hp Zetec and tweaked it as far as they could : 170hp, lol), no thanks. Zetec has nothing to do with Vtec either.

Stay with the devil you know. Particularly when the devil you don't has just finished a hard life at the hands of an obvious moron.
