I have an AMD 7970 3 gig video card that I plan to upgrade, but I think will run this monitor just not at 60hz?

I am only a casual PC gamer lately, and would use it more for Windows and pictures/video etc. I also would plan to wall mount it. I was considering the 43" version, but looking at a 42" t.v. we have in the bedroom for reference, I think that would just be too big from 4 feet away.

Thoughts or opinions?

Looks like a solid overall monitor, only concerns I might point out are:

- At 4 feet, 32" is probably too small at 4K (without scaling), you sure you don't sit closer?
- Panel is VA, while typically still good quality, I think a decent IPS will be better. However this is not a deal breaker for me
- Brightness is 300 nits. That's too in the middle for me, a solid brightness is at least 350 nits and 250nits just wont cut it. Reviews seem to indicate it's fairly bright, but this may be one thing you're truly gambling on. I've seen some report 300 nits and look bright, some report 350nits and look more dim, but typically I like that extra padding myself. There may be reviews that you can search out where they report what they actually measured.

That said, seems like a great price for the feature set. I'm thinking about it myself now :)

Internet says 7970 has mini displayport 1.2, so in theory you should be able to drive it at 4K@60Hz. You won't be playing newer games at that resolution without reducing video graphics options, but desktop should be fine.

Out of the box brightness is vastly overrated unless you're sitting in a brightly lit room with sun behind you shining directly onto the monitor. Every single monitor I've had in the past at home I had to set brightness to ~50% not to burn my retina. At work I sit on the north side of the building with my back facing windows about 10 feet behind me, and my monitors are set to about 75% brightness. I'm sure brightness is not going to be a problem.

Well here you have it, Fleshconsumed's personal guarantee! Joking aside, I just said it might be a gamble. 300 nits should be suitable as long as they're not overstating actual numbers to a large degree, but I'm picky about this particular specification so I like to make sure :)

I still think, for the price, it will be hard to find something better, which is what makes it tempting.

You're right, I measured and even wall mounted behind my desk I'd likely be only 3 feet away. I ordered the monitor, now considering a new GPU a bit early as I was going to wait a bit.

Hooked it up today after work. It is plenty bright, I manually set it to 70%, and I'll probably spend more time with the settings after dinner. It is on the back edge of my desk about 2.5' away from me, I plan to wall mount it this weekend so as I measure to there with a yardstick it is almost exactly 3 feet away from my head in a normal position. It is at 60hz with a display port cable running fine. The only 4k game I have played is 5 minutes of Defense Grid 2 and it looks very good.

I will most likely upgrade my GPU and try playing some newer games after that. I am remodeling the room my desk sits in and should be done this weekend so I can play with it more. I like it so far!

Nice... yeah after a bit more searching I've done it seems to be the same panel as the AOC 32" that is at MicroCenter... that one I've seen in person and I thought it looked plenty fine. I may end up picking this monitor up yet...

I was feeling a bit guilty still about not getting the 43" even though I know that would be a bit too large. I would think if it were a 36"-40" that would be perfect, not to be too picky. Still it's fine, just a little buyers guilt lol

I have a 40" right now which is why I'm looking at 32"... the 40" is just too big. I think maybe 34" would be "perfect" but 32" is pretty dang close.

My monitor is closer to 2ft away though.
