Considering removing the 3770k IHS and replacing the paste (for science!).

I have some indigo xtreme in the mail, and a replacement bracket for my H100 on the way too. I had a mounting error that led to a broken stud. Make sure you have the studs tightened *all the way* against the back bracket before you add the thumb screws or you can pop one of the studs trying to get a good mount because it will tighten against the block bracket, and then the stud won't tighten more by turning the thumbscrew, instead it will just pop the upper threaded section off.

The only unknown is that I'm not sure how I should re-attach it. Any suggestions?

I'd prefer to run it totally lidless, but I don't want to give up the protection or try to modify my heatsink (and the indigo stuff would then be worthless too). I have some AS5 that i'd put under the spreader.

I can't do any before/after tests because I don't want to use both applications of my Indigo Xtreme. I get my bracket next Wednesday.

"Confirmed" by a single random forum post that was reposted ad nauseum.

I guess it's also confirmed to be the problem as well, because this also originates back to a single post.

We can't pick and chose which single claims we decide are "confirmation".

edit: by the way, here is the single source of the claim that it's the same. http://bbs.pceva.com.cn/thread-43705-1-1.html Yup, a single totally random message board post.

edit2: if I'm going to do this, I may as well lap the IHS and the block while I'm at it...
