Currently have a dell p992 crt. I am looking to jump to an lcd basically to help out my eyes a bit and space saving is a bonus. Anyone seen the dvi quality and ghosting/lack of it first hand? Is it worth the money in your opinion? I have read and's review but would like some more first hand knowledge =)

There is a review of a Dell LCD Monitor (the one they got with a Dimension XPS) and they liked the monitor quite a bit. You might want to check out that review.

Are you talking about any LCD specifically? Or just LCD's in general. My advise to you is "you get what you pay for." The best LCDs tend to be expensive. I currently run a Samsung 191T through dvi from my 9800 pro. People that use my computer (mostly the kids in my dorm or my parents and their friends when I'm home) comment on how wonderful the monitor is. I honestly have no complaints about it, as it does everything I want it to (and it's much easier on the eyes than my old crts were). I do play games quite a bit, and have never had an issue w/ ghosting. I have noticed it once or twice, but it's definitely not an issue IMHO w/ a fast response rate. Anything w/ decent brightness and a response rate of 25ms or faster should do you well. I know toms hardware has a review of gaming monitors from a while ago... there are still some good models in that reivew. Dell also markets some nice ones... including a $999 20" w/ 16ms response if memory serves (this is very new).

haha oops, was considering jumping to the dell ultrasharp 2001 =) I have read the review was hoping for some more first hand knowledge

depending on which review site I check they all seem to be conflicting. My dell p992 just started making its high pitched squeal nonstop now so I need to hasten my replacement search =)

I am really just looking for a good 20ish inch lcd for gaming. I play different sorts of games from swg to halo and other fps, the ghosting in halo on the 2001fp in and's review makes me wonder about it..

Yes, the Dell 2001FP appears to be highly rated. Depending on the sale, it can be had for a very good price. I think it went for as little as $800 recently. I didn't know about ghosting in Halo, though.

Your main concerns with a gaming LCD should be a low response time (16ms is the lowest available) and DVI input. Keep an eye out for good black levels (so the backlight doesn't shine through "black" pixels and make them look gray), consistent lighting, and a good deal-pixel policy, too. And make sure your video card is powerful enough to play games at the LCDs native resolution. Consider a much cheaper 17" 16ms LCD if your card is more comfortable at 12x10 than at 16x12.
