Should I consider an Intel cpu/gpu instead for gift to aged Aunt for lite gaming, email, etc.

I've read that the APU graphics is similar to the Ivy Bridge HD Graphics.

How expensive it it? What is your price range?

That CPU is pretty much bottom on the barrel (locked to 1 Ghz its probably slower than a pentium 4). A cheap pentium laptop would be significantly faster and probably last longer. Some CPU hungry type casual games may not run well.

Get something that doesn't have such a crappy processor. My mom has a ThinkPad x120e with a faster processor on the same architecture (AMD E-350, 1.6GHz) and even though I installed an SSD on it it's sometimes painfully slow when you want to multi-task. For example, if you have a video playing on half the screen, it will lag when you're scrolling and even menial things like running Word, having Windows Mail and the browser running at the same time it lags. And it's clearly the processor, because it's only using 2-2.5GB of the available 3.5GB of RAM but the CPU can sometimes be at 10% and all of a sudden it's at 90%. Please don't get a computer with a crappy CPU, you'll regret it.

For light gaming on a budget I'd consider an AMD A6 or A8 instead because you get over 4x the CPU and IGP performance for not a whole lot more, and you'll definitely feel that difference. You can get a Lenovo G505 with an A6 for $380 on Newegg, I think you'd be better off with that.

$249.99 but the APU may be of more importance. Some reviewers cast favor on this.

My aunt wants this one so... so be it. I own an older Toshiba with an Intel Core i3 370M that has a much better cpu but the graphics sound slower being Arrandale Intel HD Graphics.

Yeah, but the truth is that you'll notice low CPU performance more than low IGP performance on day-to-day use. And even so, Brazos has a crappy IGP anyway with only 80SPs. Why is she set on that laptop anyway when it has such a crappy APU?

3rd gen Intel HD graphics should be around the same speed as the Brazos Radeon, but the CPU is over 5x faster. Try to get her to spend the additional $30, it'll make a world of difference in day-to-day use:

And if she doesn't want to listen why even bother trying to recommend her anything?

AMD E2 is slow...nothing else to say on that front. I would wait for staples or such to offer Core i3s to drop to the same level. The performance gains would be SOOOOOO MUCH BETTTERR.

What kind of games does she play? If they are flash games, they will need more cpu power that that. I would try to find a pentium or i3. I got a HP with an i3 for 349.00 on sale at best buy. You should be able to find a pentium for maybe a bit less. The i3 at 2.4ghz, no turbo, plays my wife's online city building flash game (lots of players, fairly cpu intensive), fine.
