Considering Half-Life 2....

But, I did not like the first Half-Life because the game was way to heavily scripted and "closed in" with only one way to go if you know what I mean...

On the flipside, FarCry has gone down as one of my favorite games ever. It was like Half-life, but much more wide open and not as heavily scripted. You had more control of the game while keeping a great storyline.

So for anyone who has played Half-life 2, is it like Farcry or is more like the original half-life?

I think this is in the wrong section, but anyhow. I think HL2 is one of the best games I've ever played. But, if you didn't like the first because of how linear it was and the presence of scripted events, then I think you might want to steer clear of HL2. I still say you give it a shot, it has a great storyline/graphics/weapons and whatnot. I think it's worth the money. Well, if you HATED HL1, then I'd say definitely don't get HL2. On the other hand, if you somewhat enjoyed HL1, give the sequel a shot.

so i assume u hated doom 3 then?

aw dude, how can u not like HL1?

scripted, not scripted. man that game rocked and still has crazy rockability especially with multiplayer.

Wrong forum for this question...

If you like "open-ended" games like Deus Ex and Far Cry, then HL2 is not for you. It's better than Doom 3 - where it was always completely obvious where you needed to go next - but it's a far cry from Far Cry. 🙂

Still, overall HL2 is a good game. I'm a fan of the "leave me a huge map and give me a dozen ways to get the end, and I'm happy" approach to gaming - like Far Cry, Deus Ex, and to a lesser extent GTA and the Thief series, but I still like Half Life 2. It's definitely linear, but the experience of it offsets this enough to make it enjoyable.

HL2 was in my opinion far more cinematic than anything I've ever played before.

But then, I hated Far Cry because the gameplay was old and tired, so I think what we have here is a difference of tastes.

I'll agree that Far Cry is an amazing game... but HL2 is awesome too..... however not as open as FC is.. still somewhat like HL1 in that respect.... but still awesome IMO!

Seriously if you want a good game go with Gothic 2. I know they have it at best buy as I have seen it before. It is a RPG and the graphics on all high are amazing. It is really open ended, you can pretty much do whatever you want. Lets say you wanna smoke some weed, well then go find a bong and smoke!

HL2 is the best game I've played in a long time. I'd say give it a shot. I didn't like Far Cry because you can wander off and do whatever you feel like, then forget WTF you were supposed to be doing.
