Considering giving Vista a try

I see some Beta Radeon drivers(how are these BTW) but I don't see any Vista drivers for my wireless card. Is that something that might come later on? Also are there any X-Fi drivers for Vista?

They have them posted on the driver download site, both 64bit and 32bit. They both work fine, except that EAX does not work, but that is due largely in part because sound is now going to be done differently in Vista. It is hard to say if the EAX will ever work again.

will bite if it doesn't. I heard somewhere something was gonna be released to allow EAX support in Vista once released?

I installed Vista on a friend's machine last night. He has the XT700 I think, anyway my first ATI installation. Went fine, all modes supported out of the box. The GUI came up in 1920 x 1200 x 32-bit, didn't have any problems at all (well, once we got beyond loading the driver for the Silicon Image SATA controller on the NF3 board). The machine only had 1 gig ram, and the video card isn't top end by any means, yet it got a 4.1 performance score from Vista in initial testing, and the Aero interface was smooth as ... erm.. glass.

Yes.

I have played BF2142, BF2, Everquest 2, WoW, DDO, Civ4, Age of Empires3 all on Vista 64bit.

So far teh only problem has been with Civ4 saying that it wont work. But it does.

Seeing that you have 2GB of RAM, Vista gaming is a breeze. I have absolutely no problem with BF2, CS:S, WC3, UT2004, FarCry, etc. on Vista 32bit.

Well I've tried Vista on 3 computers, a regular PC, a MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro, it worked fine in all of them and Vista got the wireless in my MBP working right away, in fact it got everything working right away minus sound, same for the Mac Pro and the regular PC, everything worked fine minus sound (for the regular PC a simple trip to windws update fixed it).

I'm liking Vista very much and yes I've done some limited gaming, I installed The Sims 2 and all expansions, all recognized well in the games explorer and I didn't notice any performance or compatiblity problems over XP, I'm using the crappy beta drivers though, can't wait till ATI releases 7.1 for Vista...

As a sidenote, Diablo II worked perfectly 😉, games explorer boxart and rating and all.
