Link to Dells tech sheets on the LCD

1) Whats the response time? Dell's page doesn't mention it.

2) Is it a 16.2m or a 16.7m color panel? Under Color Support, Dell's tech sheet just says 'yes'.

I assume my P4 3.4E and 6800GT are more than enough system to handle the 1600x1200 resolution as well.

Edit - Forgot to mention, the reason I am looking into this panel is because of the positive things I have heard about it. Also, my current NEC 17in panel produces a lot of washed out colors in dark scenes, which make it very difficult to see. Can anyone comment on how the game game looks in dark scenes, say in Doom 3 or Bloodlines?

1) 16ms
2) 16.7mil
3)yes, your cpu & gpu will handle 1600x1200 gaming fine

I personally think it looks great in Doom3.

This is probably a dumb question, but it says that it supports 1600x1200 @ 60hz. Does the low refresh rate cause flickering like it does on CRT's?

and yes, your system will handle 1600x1200.

No, the 60Hz refresh will cause no flickering. LCDs are not subject to the same weaknesses as CRTs. There isn't anything to flicker in an LCD. :)

Thanks for the info, guys. :)

Any comments on the washed out blacks in dark scenes?

Edit - Oh, any comments on Dell's dead pixel policy?

Well Dell has a 21day no questions asked return policy so dead pixels shouldn't be an issue. My 2001 had none I did find one on my 2405 though. It is only there on a pitch black screen AKA my Screen saver and can only be seen at a weird angle AKA not how I sit anyways.

Its not a big deal to me. I can't see it unless I am REALLY looking for it. But either way They are suppose to be great in that aspect.

My 2405 does have deeper blacks than the 2001 but the 2001's blacks were deep enough when I played D3.

ur system would easily be able to run at that resolution...even with most settings set on max....so no need to worry

i purchased my 2001fp a few months ago for almost $600... i am kicking myself for it cuz they've been going for less than $500 these last 2 months... :(

but it was well wroth the 600 i paid... it replaced a 17 inch planar px171m that i got from dell as well and it's been sweet...

no problems... no complaints....

If you'll be gaming, I believe the 2005FPW is better-reviewed in terms of "ghosting." You could check the reviews at both anandtech and BeHardware to be sure, though.

Yeah, I've used both and I do think the 2005FPW is better as far as exhibiting less ghosting/motion blur...The 2001FP is not too bad though.

I didn't really care for the Wide Aspect of the 2005, and I don't play too many shooters, mainly RPGs and strategy games. But the color on my 17in NEC leaves a lot to be desired. I could barely play Doom3 at all and Gothic 2 was practically unplayable in certain parts. Bloodlines also had parts where I could barely tell I was walking into a wall because the screen looked a blackish green. :(

Well yeah, the aspect ratio is really just a personal preference. The color is good on both the 2001FP and 2005FPW though. :)

What do you think, is it worth financing it through Dell at 20 USD a month for instant gratification?

Edit - F'that! 29.99% interest! I'll wait another month for the cash. Maybe if I actually call over the phone, I could get a better rate.

Actually, I will look into the 2005FPW, since its a little cheaper than the 2001. What happens when you run a non wide game, say StarCraft, AoE2, BG2 or PST? I can live with black bars, but I definitely don't want a 640x480 StarCraft stretched out to 1680x1050.
