Considering Core2Duo Upgrade

I am considering upgrading my motherboard and CPU only. I want to re-use my existing RAM.

The RAM I have is Corsair DDR2 @ 533Mt/s (ValueSelect).

I doubt the RAM will overclock very well. What would most likely be the result if I were to pair this RAM with one of the E6300's and a reasonably capable overclocking motherboard?

I am essentially interested in knowing if sticking with this ram completely rules out the possability of getting any kind of overclock, whastoever?

There's really only one way to find out and that's to try it and see. 😛

You may get lucky and be able to get a decent overclock. You should be able to get a small overclock in any case.

You may wish to hold out a couple more weeks for the new nVIDIA Intel boards. They will be able to run memory dividers.

Ah HA ... that is great information. This is where the memory runs somewhat asynchronous from the cpu, correct?

Thx!

Something like that.

Current boards can run the memory faster but not slower.

If you can wait until Jan., the E4300 cpu (~$150) will be released with it's 800FSB. This may put less demands on your ram, and with the factory clock multiplyer is turned up to 9X, will still be a smokin' machine.

I think two weeks for a crazy overclocking board with memory dividers is better.
