What do i need?
Im using
asus p3v4x
celeron 600@945
infinion 256mb pc133
geforce2 ultra
SB Live
Symbios Scsi
Yamaha 12xcdrw
blah blah blah

I know i will need a new botherboard. Will i need different ram.
Im thinking about going TBird 1200@??? on this rig.

Im building a peltier/water cooler. Ordered my 152watt pelt today(wanna see this celeron do 1200 hehe)

Anyways. With the buggy P3V4X should i try or fool with a PIII or give the birds a try?

Any suggestions are needed and appreciated.

I say go Tbird. That way you get to keep your existing cpu+mobo config to use for a server or something or sell.

Infineon RAM should work in socketA mobos.

Make sure your PSU is up for the job.. (if it's 300W you should be fine, if you wanna be 100% sure take a look at AMDs recommended PSU list)

You will need a big cooling fan, which it seems you are heading in the right direction.

Like zephyr says, a 300w psu is a must for a high end tbird. choose a good m/board, Asus or Abit are good, KT7 Raid would be a fine partner for your tbird.

Everything else you have will work fine.

I would think that if you have that peltier on the new (amd) system.. go with a really good power supply.. that is, if the peltier goes into the same power supply.. I don't know much about peltiers, but athlons are power hungry.. I'm gonna get me a enermax 430w sometime...

A GeForce 2 Ultra with a Celeron you say? Get that T-Bird. You don't need super cooling at 1.2GHz.

I suggest an enermax Whisper psu. Its very quiet and is 300w. You will need a good case(Antec sx 830) to get all the heat produced by the peltier out. You can get some Panaflo 80mm L1a fans because they are quiet

I have been pre-testing Celerons and PIII's for overclocking since April. I recently moved over to "the dark side" and bought the equipment to pretest Durons and Tbirds. I have three identical systems set up with MSI K7T Pro2a's and Apacer infineon PC133 ram. All CPU's are tesed with FOP32-1's and Arctic Silver.

After the first week of playing with Duron 600's and Tbird 1giggers, I have not recommended a Celeron or PIII to any customers who asks. I love the stability of this motherboard, and I love the overclockability of the CPU's with the option of mulitplier adjustment. I am waiting on my distributor to get in the newer K7T Pro 2a Turbo for use in my own personal system. I'll be ripping out a PIII 700e at 1050 on a MSI 815e Pro motherboard.

I have set aside a 1.0 gig CPU that ran stable on the K7T at 1.313 gig 12.5 x 105. I am really anxious to see the performance of this CPU running at a FSB speed in the 150 Mhz range. I am hoping for a 8.5 multiplier at the 150 Mhz bus.

Since you are already clocked at 950+ and an experienced O/C I would recommand you go for the DDR133 1gig AMD T-Bird. Then o/c it to the max you will then see a major performance increase A NOTICEABLE and WORTHY upgrade and yet didnt eat a hole in your wallet.

Um, don't you mean you moved over *from* the dark side?!

Thanks for the replies folks. I have an enermax 430 already. My peltier rig is gonna be sweeet! I riped the inards from an old phackerd Bell a friend gave me. Installed a radiator from a refrigeration unit we were scrapping at work and my water bucket is in there too. Just gotta do some finishing touches to it. Now to find some $$ for the new MB/CPU
