Considering buying the 3007WFP-HC, what else should I consider in that price range?

I'm looking to build a monster system at the end of this year for my home office, I want to play lots of games and also watch movies and recorded TV (mostly hidef stuff). I plan on going with a dual monitor setup, I currently have a Dell 24" lcd that I want to continue to use for everyday computing. But I also want to add a 30" lcd for movies anda games, but I'm but sure if I should go with a Dell or maybe an LCD TV. My budget is around 1200-1400 for the lcd, anyone have a few suggestions?



If you have pics of your rigs and lcds do you mind posting them? I'm looking for ideas on how to best setup my space, I'll take some pics of my office and post them later today. One last thing, is anyone out there running a 5.1 system on their PC? How do you mount your rear speakers?

Here is a pic of my setup the day the LCD came in the mail.. I bought this at newegg for $999. I did extensive research and wieghed all the pros and cons. There is ABSOLUTLY NOT a perfect monitor or LCD and its simply amazing that we have a bunch of idiots producing them.

At this level as well, there are even more problems. Imagine this, as a TV or a monitor, they produced what seemed the perfect LCD HDTV 1080p, has everything. Tons of inputs, low profile, out of the way speakers, designed around gamers.....BUT OOoo, they decided to throw in at the last second something called "Dynamic Contrast" which will change the contrast on your screen depending on what you are looking at. WOW, What an idiot idea. And Its so obvious that whoever designed this has no clue about colors and text in gaming and computing. Anyways, its those kind of things you will need to look for.

I have now owned the 30 inch Dell and the Sharp 32in 1080p. I actually preferred the Sharp, even though it was the already mentioned LCD with that problem above. Colors were crisp, reds are saturated, but still ok for me and gaming. Better then OK, i am VERY pleased with my purchase and have returned the Dell. The Dell had me squinting at the high resolution and I have great eyes. I had to look close at the screen.

On the pic above that is the Samsung 244t next to it, so you can see how it dwarfs. I really have no idea how people can use a monitor that is less then 24 inches. Thanks for the reply Boglwe. Do you know if Sharp still sells that 32 1080p LCD? I went on their website and looked at the Aquos brands but did'nt see anything smaller than a 42".

of course they do. I do not know why they are not on the Sharp website, maybe you missed them. Its their flagship. Here is some links to them at Newegg.

The one with a ton of inputs and a supposed viperdrive

The one i bought after tons of research and found, NO difference in the two visually or input lag wise. Only difference are the amount of inputs.

I will keep an eye on this thread and help you in any way i can.

Well, fwiw, the best 30" monitor on the market right now seems to be the new Gateway XHD3000. It upscales ALL inputs to 1600p and from all that I read, does one helluva good job at it too.


It is a bit more than you budgeted for, but if you plan on watching movies on this and hooking up any thing else to the monitor (tons of inputs for PS3, Xboox 360, DVR etc), I'd think this is the monitor for you.

WOWZERS. Looks like I know what I am getting for Christmas. WOohoo. What a nice monitor. It looks like somone finally got EVERYTHING together.

I still love my Sharp though and will probably use this as a secondary. If I get it I will let you know how I feel about it, if you wait until Christmas.

Wowsers that Gateway is sweet times 10!! I'm so tempted to pull the trigger on it, but I had to drop my budget a few bucks since I first created this post. From the reviews I've read it seems like a perfect monitor for gamers (PC and console).


I wonder if there's going to be any special pricing on it before the year is out.


How much of a difference would I notice between a 32" and a 30"?

I have a Dell 3007WFP, but I'm selling it and going back to my 2405FPW.
Here are the reasons:
Resolution is too high for games. Older ones like BF2 run great on my 7950GX2 (which should be about as fast as an 8800gtx) but BF2142 has to have settings turned down to medium and low.
Video doesn't look any better (obviously).
Color sucks (greenish tint) but hopefully HC fixes that... but the HC is supposed to be dimmer so I would steer clear.
Sparkly panel. The sparkle/graininess is the worst out of any LCD I have ever seen. It's very distracting. I think all LG panels are like that.
I don't do any work at home.
I'm getting a $240 profit.

A 30" 2560x1600 LCD is for work, not games and videos. The real estate is really nice if you need it.

I'd take a look at the 24" Samsung one that does 1080p. It's got hdmi input as well. I myself run the Sceptre 22" but I am looking for something with a high resolution soon. I am considering the Samsung, Acer or Gateway 24" model, anything with 1920x1200 is fine with me.

That is a 3007FPW-HC. I'd move the monitors closer together if I really wanted to but I haven't bothered to re-arrange.

I play games on it, but not at native resolution. Either window mode, or a similar aspect ratio stretched

I'd have to see it to believe it. No matter what it won't be as good as native. The 3007WFP actually looked pretty decent using 1920x1200 with the video card doing the scaling.
