Considering buying a Dell 2407WFP

It's due time to replace this old 19" CRT, so I've been looking around for a good LCD. I'll primarily use it for PC games and movies.

I considered getting a Samsung 22" LCD Syncmaster 226BW, but then Dell dropped the price of their 24" 2407WFP by 25% to the end of this month and made it very tempting.

Most reviews and comments I've read are highly positive, but I'm wondering..

How well it handles older games and does it actually have any noticable input lag?
AFAIk the a04 revision fixes most of the problems (blending) with the earlier ones, or am I wrong?
Anyone got experience with the 2407 or other 24" LCDs (LG L245WP-BN for example)?

Source? You can already find them for $550... 25% drop is unlikely.
 
I have the older 2405fpw and I love it. I dont notice any input lag, I play Quake 3 and BF2 regularly and I do just fine in them. It handles older games fine too. I play AoE2, AoM, Starcraft, D2. Its a great monitor; movies look awsome on it too.
 
Get it, love mine. No 'real' issues. My only real complaint is Color Shifting which is due to the panel tech. that every other 24" (ya ya, not on the Nec 2490...) uses so meh🙂.

The Norwegian Dell site, possibly the whole Euro branch. It's still cheaper in the US though, as most technology. Converting currency directly = $1064.

Starcraft runs in 640*480, does the screen only use that much area for it and blank the rest, or what?

 
Yes and No. The newest rev has the ability to fill the screen, fill the screen as much as possible while keeping the aspect ratio correct ( in this case black pillars to either side), or do a 1:1 pixel mapping which would give you a tiny image in the middle of the screen.

I have this monitor... Don't question it, just buy it! You can't get a better deal on a monitor of this size and quality!
 
I was honestly looking for a new monitor as well. I have been looking around but I can't find anything about these 'revisions' that the monitor has had. Could someone list A02, A03, A04 and what it fixed?

I was also reading up on this monitor but found out that it downscales 1080p to 720p with DVI-HDCP. They never said anything about revisions, so it could have been fixed in a revision? I've read that A04 fixed 1:1 pixel mapping (not sure if that includes the 1080p problem), anyone confirm this?

Reason being, if I did buy this, it would probably be the last monitor for awhile. So HDCP, 1080p capability (futureproof) and such would be necessary.
 
You know how when Homer opens the fridge and sees a Duff beer, or sandwich, or forbidden donut and does that drooling gurgle thing he does? That's kinda how I feel when I sit in front of my 2405 🙂
 
I just pulled the trigger on this monitor. I think its the best deal around. I wouldn't get any other 24". If I didnt get this it would be something 30" or larger like the 30" dell -hc or a westy
 
Good decision :thumbsup:

Another plus are the card readers on the side, supports most flash memory. Just slide the mem card from your phone or camera or what ever in and read it, VERY useful.
 
The monitor can display 1080P fine, it just uses 1:1 pixel mapping and displays two small black bars on the top and bottom (60 pixels each = 120pixels, the difference between 1080 vert lines and 1200 vert lines of the native 1920x1200 resolution).

For the money, you can't beat it.
 
3 days after I ordered and it's here 🙂
So far I've concluded that it's ridiculously big compared to my old 19" CRT, and that it has no dead pixels (DeadPixelBuddy).
Huzzah!
Now to use it.

don't sit too close initially. you might get headaches from your eyes moving around too much. should be fine once you're used to the size (it happened to me).

Heh, that was my initial reaction too. I went from a 19" to the 24" and I was blown away at the size when I pulled it out of the box.
 
How come I can't access the "Wide Mode" (for aspect/1:1/fill) menu? It's greyed out. I'm using DVI-D.
Also, screen went black (except the mouse) after I quit Fallout (when I wanted to test pixel mapping) and I had to reboot.

edit: it's using Nvidia software scaling (which fills out the screen by default, but even if I select "use my display's built in scaling", it reverts to "Use NVIDIA scaling" when I leave the control panel (settings applied of course)
