Considering an Upgrade. Worth it?

Right now I'm running a shuttle SN45G (nForce 2, 400MHZ FSB) with an Athlon XP 3000+, 1 GB DDR3200 Corsair 2-3-3-6, and an AGP XFX 6600GT. I get a 3dMark05 of about 3200-3400 range.

Question is, would I see a very serious increase if I just increase my CPU/MB to an nForce 3 and Winchester A64? I realize I'll see a large spike if I go with a higher video card, I'm only curious about an upgrade while keeping my 6600GT. I've been playing Sims 2, HL 2, UT 2004, and the like. I also got a Dell 2405FPW, so I could benefit from running in higher resolutions. Also, higher end games would most likely be a purchase in the next while.

Just curious as to everyone's opinoin.

Thanks!

it would probably not be worth your money but you would, of course, see a nice performance increase... i have a similar setup, XP2600 and radeon9500 and i'm still holding out before getting an A64...

No, definitely not worth it.
Wait until you are ready to upgrade the VC. Then you will want to go PCI-e which will require a new MB anyway.

Thanks. I had to hear people *other* than myself to tell me I'm crazy. Kinda doesn't have the same ring to it when you preach restraint to yourself concerning upgrades :)

Jut bought the 6600GT, literally last week. I guess I was expecting more, though I should have lined my wallet up with my expectations. The card is great, don't get me wrong. I was simply expecting champagne on a beer budget.
