Considering an upgrade...what ya guys think?

Alrighty guys Im running a cely 433 NOT OCED, on an Abit BM6 mobo, with 128MB of PC100 SDRAM, and a 32MB DDR GEforce 2 GTS card. Thinking about upgrading to a T-bird 800mhz w/128MB of PC133 Ram, all on an ABIT-KT7 mobo may raid 2 15GB IBM deskstars...not sure. Question is with DDR ram pendering a release...if I do upgrade will this be worthless? Im doing fine right now but as one Maverick said...I have the need for speed....but also I work for Best Buy, good job, good pay, nice car, high bills =) so I'm very frustrated what ya guys think?

Get it.

If you keep waiting around for the next best feature/chipset, you'll never end up buying anything.

I'm in the same boat as you, and I'm frustrated. Well, unless you can wait a couple of months, I'd go for it. 800 Mhz is damn fast, and you can still upgrade later to 1100Mhz, which I don't think is going to be considered slow for quite a while.

the benchmarks on the ddr dont show a HUGE difference, but it is faster. It really depends on WHEN you want your new computer. Man, Best Buy in my town (springfield, mo) pays like crap, what city you work at? My tech job at a logistics company pays better than the Best Buy jobs here, and no pee test 🙂 heehee
Might consider grabbing a less expensive socket a board and a duron, then sell them when your ddr boards come out in full force. Taht way you can wait for prices to drop a bit before buying.

There is no guarantee that DDR mobos will be available in a couple of months. It could be as late as Q1 next year, so if I were you, I'd go for it. Another thing to do is to get a duron 600 and OC the mofo. In that case, when DDR mobos come out, you might still have some cash left over 🙂

I get paid really really well actually...then again I was top sales 2 months in a row going on third month, but its non commission, you just get halla raises, ALL of my other jobs were PCTech, and I think customers like a non commision, happy go lucky, make stupid jokes all the time, nerdy salesman (quite a lot of adjectives there eh?) anyways, I may just jump on the boat and grab me a T-Birdy anyways X-Mas is coming around and AMD gives us Best Buy employees a SWEET little deal!

I would get what you are thinking, sounds very good. I would not worry completly about DDR RAM
