Considering an i70 build.....

And I am woefully out of touch with what would be a good motherboard/chip combo that would give me a good boost over my core2duo 2.1ghz.

I do not need anything fancy like dual hellfire graphics cards or anything like that. And I do not want to go high or low on the CPU. Something in the middle to slightly upper for the CPU is fine.

Any recommends would be appreciated.

I usually lean towards MSI, Gigabyte and Asus. Stability over speed for sure. Thanks, Dave

If you overclock, an i7 920 would be a pretty good bet. Or for a cheaper, different platform, the i5 750.

If you don't overclock, probably an i7 860 due to it's aggressive turbo modes, would perform well.

Im using the dfi dk x58 T3eH6 and after using the evga sli le and the asus p6t se i find the dfi to be the fastest and much cooler running with there heatpipe assembly..
it fired up first time and im running it at 3.2 at 1.18 volts for cpu..
its my first dfi board and it its truly my favorite..the evga and the asus were fine boards but this one runs so nice and much cooler than the other boards..it has a sinestered heatpipe,go to dfi website and read about.it works great.
at stock settings this board benched better than the asus and evga board using everest and sandra....
I change motherboards quite often till i find one i really like and this dfi board is the bomb imo.....ck it out..
any of the x58 boards run fine for stock or a mild o/clock so pick the one that you like the best...

Perhaps a Gigabyte X58 UD3R. Relatively inexpensive (for the platform) and is high on the bang for the buck scale.
