alright, i'm no fan of domestics especially Chrysler, but I have been looking at some wranglers recently. i want to get one where the top comes down and the doors come off. which model is this? is there a hardtop version? anyone here have one? how do you like it? the style seems the same year after year, should i go used? this is more of a mid-life, recreational vehicle. looks like fun in the snow.

All wranglers have removable doors, and all can be fitted with soft top, hard top, or no top 🙂

Avoid the i4 at all costs. Get them checked out well beforehand by a 4x4-oriented mechanic to make sure it hasn't been abused.

ah ok. didnt know that. thanks. found a few 2010s low miles for around 18k.

With the 6cyls, remember that most people who talk about the Jeep's bulletproof six are talking about the 4.0 I6, not the newer V6. I'll let someone else comment on that engine, as I have no experience with it.

Are the I4's that bad? I've known a couple people with them, and they seemed reliable enough. Again, though, these are older models.

I would say get a hard top if you can. Easier to get a soft top later if you want it...and daily driving with the soft top kind of blows. Noisy as hell, and the plastic windows turn to crap pretty quickly.

The 3.8L V6 is the one that people don't like. The 4.0L I6 is good, and the 3.6L V6 is good, but it will only be in the newest Wranglers.

3.6 Pentastar is a fantastic engine, so be on the lookout for it and not the 3.8. And Chrysler is making some awesome cars right now and their quality is way up. Additionally, as the owner of a new Chrysler product, they're really bending over backwards to make sure you're happy. Don't be surprised if you get a few recall notices after buying a new one for small issues that technically aren't a big deal and wouldn't have been addressed in years past.

Wife used to have a YJ. Had to put sand bags in the back or it was squirrely in the snow.

The V-6 is what they've used since 2007. The 4.0's last year was 2006.

I would advise to get a soft top unless you like water leaks. Oddly, the hard top leaks worse, a LOT worse, then the soft top on the 07 and newer models.

And they've NEVER completely fixed the leaks, either. I just saw a 13 with the same old problem the other day. Leaks at the center of the dash and the A pillars.
