Considering a Blu-Ray player?

I ?m posting this for those of you planning on purchasing a new blu-ray player. Just a little reminder that both the LG BD300 and the Samsung BD-2500/BD-P2550, besides being first-rate blu-ray players, will also stream Netflix ?watch now? content if you have a high-speed Internet connection. I?ve got a BD-P2500 and the Netflix watch now content works like charm.

The quality of the Netflix content isn?t anywhere near as good as blu-ray, but there is a lot of HD content available (and the promise of lots more to come) It?s really great for catching up on HD television that you might have missed. I?m currently watching Season One of Heroes in HD and it looks pretty good. My only real complaint is that it does not include even a basic 5.1 soundtrack, only stereo.

The ?watch now? content is free with my 3 DVD Netflix subscription, which is an unbelievable value. If you are going to buy a blu-ray player anyway, I can?t think of any reason why it shouldn?t be one with Netflix streaming capability.

BD-P2550 Review

CNet clearly prefers the Sammy player (BD-P2550 also adds Pandora streaming), but I'm not sure that CNet is considered authoritative.

My advice is to go somewhere that sells both players and take a look for yourself using some quality blu-ray content. Best Buy is the only place that sells the BD-P2550 (which is why I didn't get it since I purchased from my custom installer), but lots of places sell the BD-300 and BD-P2500.

I have a 2550 and LOVE it. I bought my Mom a 2500 for Christmas - got it for $225 AR from an authorized dealer on eBay during the 30%-back live.com rebate deal. Screaming deal. I think the 2500 is actually the better-looking player, not that it matters much, and it's easier to find a deal on, but the Pandora on the 2550 is nice as long as you have a HT system. The Netflix streaming is implemented beautifully, the upscaling is great, and obviously BR discs look awesome.

The Samsung is definitely the better player. It has the Reon video processor.
