Considering a 9800 GX2

I'm looking to buy a used rig from someone local (for a good price). The rig has (2) 9800 GX2 running in SLI. I'm planning on selling one of them because (1) I want to recoop some of the costs (2) I hear the GX2 in SLI do no scale well and (3) I just bought a 22 incher that runs @ 1680 X 1050 so I don't think i need 4 gpus.

Now, is there anything wrong with GX2 that I should about? I know they run hot and consume a lot of power but the rig has a 230mm side panel fan and a 1000w PSU so they should take care of that. Any other reason why the GX2 would be a bad choice?

vram limits gx2 full potential. that's why they aren't worth as much as GTX 280 although in lower resolutions gx2 is faster.

If you can get it cheap just go for it.

the rig is well priced but the more I think about it, the GX2 probably don't have GREAT resale value...

How much were you expecting to get? If a 9800GT can be had for around $100 (?) then you could probably get maybe $150-$175 for it? I dunno I've never paid much attention to the GX2.

You can get a new 9800GT with a warranty for $100...why would anyone pay $175 for a used 9800GX2 with no warranty?

That said, the 9800GX2 certainly has some life left in it, especially if you plan to play at 1680x1050 - the only cards that will beat it at that resolution are the newest dualGPU models (4850x2, 4870x2, GTX 295).

But I still don't see anyone wanting to pay $175 for that card. I'll bet you'll be lucky to get $150 shipped.

u can get anything for real cheap now adays, so getting a gx2 is too late, and you'll have to worry about the microstuttering & lack of new game support, it's a waste of money, get a 48701gb or a 260gtx if u need a high/mid card
