Background:
I own a 1999 CLK430 and i owe some $7K on it at 4.99% ...$340/mo payment

I came across a special from a local BMW dealer - CPO 525i with 60K for $24K and they usually have promo financing rates for those cars (as low as 2.9%)... I'm thinking I can trade my car in for some 12 grand or so i'll end up with some $300 monthly payment

Any thoughts?

EDIT:
Actually it looks like they've got 0% financing with $2500 down payment. sweet!

You must be pretty fat if ~180hp can't haul your ass around town in a sedan.

Please, the 2.8L is no slouch.

Your not going to drive it an say "damn this thing is a dog."

I don't have experience with the new 5 series, although I have looked into the 6 speed manual 545i.

I know for a fact that the W210 E class is SOLID. CLK is just a 2 door E class......

CLK430 is a fantastic car, great torque and power, pulls hard.

You can get 28 mpg on the highway if you keep it at 55(which is imposible in a mercedes)

Overall great car, I would stick with what you have.

Personally I think it's crazy to spend that amount of money on a car with 60k miles on it. I think it's crazy to spend 24k on a car in general, but that's me. I'm frugal with money.

I suppose if cars are your thing then go for it. Probably not a bad idea to get rid of the old Mercedes, but what year is the BMW? Personally I'd rather get something with less miles = should be more reliable and lower probability of repairs.

I'd wait for the new merc E class. The 5 series looks like ass on wheels. This class of cars is tricky because I'm in the same boat. The E is too old now, the 5 looks shitty, and I'm meh about the a6.

I'm kind of considering stepping up and maybe getting a used a8. Much better car, for around the same price.

depends on the car. For the car OP is considering, it's not although it's relatively high mileage for the year.

drove it today, awesome car (heated seats and stering wheel, xenons etc). They only offered 9something for the benz though, so i'll sell it myself.

525 in the E60 5 series is acutally 3.0. It doesn't have the double vanos intake and is a detuned version of the engine found in the 530. That being said it is slow, my friend has a 06 325 E90 3 series (same engine) which is pretty slow, the 5 series weights quite a bit more i think.

For $24k you should be looking for a CPO e39 540i. Just make sure you have warranty coverage and you're set.

You can get 540i's for a lot less than that, I don't know about CPO'd though.

You can find 1999's or 2000's for around $16k.

6 speed is a must on that car.

The 5 is about 200lbs. heavier. I agree though, the 325/328 automatic feels underpowered. With a 6-speed it's a lot better but still soft on torque down low. I drove a 545 a while back and that was one sweet ride.
