http://www.texasobserver.org/legislative-proposal-nullify-lgbt-nondiscrimination-laws/

Four Republican lawmakers from the Plano area plan to introduce legislation that would bar cities and counties from adopting ordinances prohibiting discrimination against LGBT people, the Observer has learned. The proposed legislation also threatens to nullify existing LGBT-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinances in cities that are home to roughly 7.5 million Texans—or more than one-quarter of the state’s population.

Also, bonus points for being traditionally No Big Government, but, turning to the government to allow you to discriminate. Hooray for double standards within double standards!!!

EDIT: Sorry - wrong forum,... when possible, please move to P&N.

Moved from OT.

but, but, think of the poor small business owners who might be forced to do something like sell a wedding cake knowing that a bunch of queers will be eating it.

Why do alphabet people need special laws? Aren't they covered by the same ones everyone else is?

Yes.

Except that if you are LGBTDXYZMFSOBOMGWTFBBXWATERMELON you can scream discrimination and sue a business out of business.

.... No? Or are you claiming there's a large number of people who are legally fired for being heterosexual? Discrimination is a problem for civilized society and so we've decided to take steps to reduce the negative impact it has on people. That's why segregation isn't allowed. It's why you can't stop women from owning property. And now, it's why firing people because of who they love is being redefined as unacceptable.

Everything is dumber in Texas.
Tech companies should close shop and leave if Texas passes this.

It's a dumb law and I would oppose it if I lived in Texas. That being said I'm unsure how you could "prove" discrimination since LGBT isn't an obvious physical status like other protected classes (race, sex, disability, etc) and if questioned the owner could simply say "I wasn't able to accept their business for _____ reason" unrelated to discrimination. Of course many bigots seem more than happy to announce how they won't ever serve those (fill in derogatory slur here) but smarter ones won't.

According to the article describing the anti-discrimination legislation:

Story

The amendment to the city’s 1989 anti-discrimination policy extends protections from housing, employment and public accommodation discrimination to include sexual orientation, gender identity and other categories.

Please explain how a law that protects a person from being refused employment solely because he's a straight male is a "special law that protects alphabet people?"

The people who push such legislation are our Wahabi Christians who practice a diseased form of Christianity but, of course, believe it's the real thing. As it is the duty of real Muslims everywhere to oppose Islamic extremism, it is the duty of all real Americans to wipe this scourge from the face of our country. These people are like cancer. Their madness consists of being the most insane in their group. Such madness is a threat to the nation and is supported by many who post here.

the LGBT people can stand in line like everyone else did... no protections for them until the FAT people get it first.

I just came here to laugh at the word "alphabet people" lol Never heard that one before. Im slow.
I made it up. I did so because they keep adding letters to it depending on what group is using it.

LGBT
LGBTQ
LGBTQI
LGBTQIA

I'm wondering where it ends.
