They don't believe in choice, only shame after the fact. As much as I want to engage in the schadenfreude at the abstinence-only crowd and the Palins in particular for supporting them, I think we should just move on and agree that this is one situation amongst many, many others that demonstrate the need for comprehensive sex education and reproductive/family planning services. As for Bristol, I hope that she finds the happiness that she or any of us deserves in family life without all the judgement and apparent shame/guilt that her family now heaps upon her.

Good post. We also need healthcare providers to be proactive in discussing reproductive issues with women. The One Key Question initiative - “Would You Like to Become Pregnant in the Next Year?” is getting positive feedback from patients and providers.

Democrat ≠ Atheist, just as Christian ≠ Conservative.

Overall, we have no problem with the invocation of God so long as the separation of Church and State is preserved in practice. An invocation of God by a president during a funeral? Thats not government policy, and therefore shouldn't matter. The Palins have specifically advocated on a related policy, that of Abstinence Only education, that is based in religious belief. If people cannot see the difference, I don't know what to say.

BTW I don't have an issue with a President invoking statements of faith in the eulogy of a pastor. He is the President of the Untied States but he isn't acting in that role while giving a eulogy at what is really a private event. It isn't a state funeral.
