The smelt aren’t the only fish benefitting from generous water usage by the state of California. In 2014, Congressman Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) explained, “last month the Bureau of Reclamation drained Folsom and other reservoirs on the American and Stanislaus rivers of more than 70,000 acre feet of water – enough to meet the annual needs of a city of half a million people – for the comfort and convenience of fish.” The goal: to push baby salmon to the Pacific Ocean, where they swim anyway, and to change the temperature of the water for their benefit. According to the Center for Biological Diversity, the state of California wastes 260 billion gallons of water each year “saving salmon” and for “other conservation purposes.”

just think how many Hollywood liberal swimming pools could be filled in LA / S.Calif/ with 150 billion gallons of fresh water every year??..Every YEAR.. Or all those Serra Club Hot tubs?? And the John Muir Society Members can keep those fountains flowing in their front / back yards. And what about your precious illegal aliens..don't you think they could use some of that 150 billion gallons of water every year instead of your eco-KOOK bait fish and mud puddle maggots?? And maybe you could do with out a few less fairy shrimp..and just what do you eco-KOOKS do with fairy shrimp anyway??

7.5 days of water use based on daily state wide consumption. In other words, "a drop in the bucket".

It isn't just the conservative ( rich bastids ) that feel entitled to more water than the poor. It is All the rich republican ( rich bastids ) and democrat ( rich bastids ) alike.

You post title is BS.

If you read the link, it's about a conservative talk show host, Steve Yuhas.

Explain how referencing the article and who it's about is BS.

150 billion gallons of water a year could help here.. http://www.ryot.org/17-californian-towns-run-water-april/551125

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...ifornia-drought-bottled-water-showers-toilets

About 80 homes in East Porterville now have small, clear boxes sitting out front. The square plastic tanks hold around 350 gallons of non-potable water. It’s enough to run toilets and take showers, but nothing with which to wash dishes or cook. The county has installed 53 large potable water tanks, which hold up to 2,500 gallons of water at homes around Tulare. Thirty-one such tanks sit in East Porterville.

More water comes in bottles, distributed from churches, the county and Johnson herself. And there remains hope that the end of April could bring a storm.

even the eco-KOOKS in 2007 said Calif. needs more dams for storage and population growth. http://www.internationalrivers.org/resources/new-dams-proposed-in-california-1753

Governor Schwarzenegger says he believes that the new dams are needed to meet the needs of California’s growing population, which is expected to increase by 23% in the next two decades. The problem with this prediction is that it assumes that California will continue to use the same amount of water per capita as it does today.

Your title implies that it is just the rich conservatives that feel they are entitled to more water.

The person in the article being conservative or not has nothing to do with the problem.

California, They should just let it revert back into the desert that it was. All those displaced can move to Mexico.

California is not just one giant desert.

Do you even have even an ounce of an idea of just how fucking much ecological diversity there is in California? Even the natives there have tons of ethnical and cultural diversity.

Yes, I do know that California isn't a huge desert in its entirety. I lived in Vallejo for three years and travelled up and down the coast.

However in the past a huge portion of southern CA was a desert or near desert. Now it seems it all wants to turn into one.

The drought has nothing to do with or care about their ethnical and cultural diversity.

Southern California is a lot different than the rest of California. But it sucks that when most everyone is thinking of California they start thinking about Southern California.

The drought has nothing to do with or care about their ethnical and cultural diversity.

But it is important because California is very diverse in so many ways and it is very important for the world biosphere.

The whole problem with California and their drought: Too many people, Not enough water to support them. They may be able to fend off the drought is they were willing to forgo some of their water entitlement issues.

Not much you can do with a drought except wait it out. looking at the drought maps they have a very serious problem at the moment.

And from the water usage numbers I have seen ( if true ) nobody gives a crap.

Agree with you here. Not all of California is a desert but that does not mean that it is meant to support 50 million human residents. Even much of the area of California that is not desert is still land that is of mild to moderate aridness.

Not much you can do with a drought except wait it out. looking at the drought maps they have a very serious problem at the moment.

LOL

Considering the overall picture that might want to think of some very big changes as it could get even worse and it might not go away for a very long fucking time now,

And from the water usage numbers I have seen ( if true ) nobody gives a crap.

Would not be surprised. Guessing a lot of residents over there are ignorant self-important dumbasses who think they are the coolest individuals anywhere in the fucking universe. So probably not going to care about anything that is not trivial.

Do you?

What am I saying, of course you don't. You support slavery if it saves you a nickel on your lettuce.

Do you even know what slavery is, bro? I certainly don't support it. People picking lettuce now are there because they willingly took those jobs, because they have families to feed in their home countries.
You are just pissed that Americans won't willingly do them. Maybe you are pissed that our social programs are too generous that Americans still aren't desperate enough to do these crappy jobs. If only Americans' families were at risk of starving, you would be able to replace all the undocumented labor with Americans.

Time to just take the water usage tier system to an extreme.

Something like this but make the higher numbers ridiculous unless you own a farm

Well at least you are admitting that entitlements in this country are so friggin high that people would rather be on them than lift a finger. Your words.

And you're happy that they're brown people, Shortbus-Special Senseamp.

you will get massive blow back from the very farmers this whole thing is trying to help. Conservatives dont care about illegals. If they did they would make it illegal to hire them. If it was a felony to hire a migrant worker then few would do it and we wouldnt have this ""problem"

The reality is the human being is the perfect fruit and vegetable picker for about 20k years now and people want a bag of oranges for $3 not $25.
